Local Election Contests Get Started So Register To Vote

There are several contests on the April 20th local election ballot for Huntley and Grafton Township. Petitions for the ballot were due last Monday at 5pm. If you are a Huntley or Grafton Township resident who hasn't registered to vote yet, you only have until March 22nd to be able to cast your vote on April 20.
To register to vote you must be 18 years old and a U.S. citizen. With two (2) forms of identiHcation, you can register at the Grafton Township Office at 10109 N. Vine Street in Huntley, the McHenry County Clerk's Office at the McHenry County Government Center in Woodstock, or call 669-3245.
The Huntley Village President seat currently held by James C. Dhamer is open. Dhamer will run for re-election, challenged by James F. Greve and Village Trustee Terrence Hoeft.
The Village of Huntley seats open include three Trustee positions. The terms for Trustees Joe Gow, Hoeft and
George Russ will expire in May. Those running for the three Trustee positions include: Dennis Shamhart, John C. Todd, Milford E. Brown, David C. Gates, Jerome H. Eckel and Doug Clavey.
Two Director seats are open for the Huntley Library Board. Directors Lenny Borhart and Charles Ruth will fmish their terms this spring. Wade A. Runge and Margaret Huber Hackworthy are candidates for the two 6-year-term seats. Nancy Livingston will also be listed on the ballot to fill
the remaining two years left
on a 6-year Director's seat.
Livingston was appointed to
replace Fran Sheets after her
resignation last May. The Huntley Park Board has
two Commissioner seats open.
Commissioners Graham Knott and
Barry Borchart's terms in
office will end this spring.
Those running for these open
seats are Clark Borhart,
Graham Knott and Dr. William
Awe. All positions at Grafton
Township are up for election.
They include Supervisor,
Clerk, Road Commissioner, Assessor and the four (4) Trustee seats.
Grafton Supervisor had been held by Vernon (Jack) Brunschon. However after his illness, Mildred M. Ruth was appointed as Acting Supervisor. Ruth will run uncontested for the Supervisor seat.
Grafton Clerk has been held by Dick Enstrom for the last 32 yesrs H» will retire in May. Dan Darst will run uncontested for the Clerk seat.
Grafton Road Commissioner Robert D. Hight and Grafton Assessor William Ottley will both run for re-election uncontested.
The current Grafton Board Trustee positions are held by Daniel G. Ziller, Delwin Borhart, Dennis Trom and Thomas S. Kobza Jr. who was appointed after Don Rhodes' retirement from the Board last November. Ziller, Borhart and Kobza will run for re-election. In addition, Richard Hansen will run for the fourth board seat.
Help Sought For Park's Log Cabin Restoration	
Help is being sought for the restoration of Deicke Park's Log Cabin. The cabin was built in the 1920s by local Boy Scouts and their leaders.
Huntley Park District is looking for interested people to help raise funds for the restoration of the Log Cabin in Deicke Park. The cabin was built by the local Boy Scouts and their leaders in the 1920s. Some of the people involved were Bill Amos, Johnny Senne, Charlie Kreutzer, Frank & Lyle Rubash, Peter & Peter Jr., Kalsow, Andrew Schmitt, the Andersons, the Fifes, Lynn Burns, the Marshs, and Glen Ewert, among others. Anticipation mounts as the Huntley's Third Grade Class waits for their cue to start the 23rd annual Abraham Lincoln Play.

The third grade class at Huntley Elementary School presented three performances of the 23rd annual Abraham Lincoln Play. Besides presenting the "Life of Abe Lincoln" students recited the Gettysburg Address, poems about Lincoln and jokes told by Lincoln. Everyone in the class is involved in the production, whether as a
performer or as part of the indispensable behind-the- scenes crew.
They opened at Sunset Manor in Woodstock on Feb. 1, with repeat performances at 9am on Feb. 3 and 7pm on Feb. 4 in the Huntley Elementary Gym. Everyone attending the performances showered well deserved applause on these talented performers.
Huntley's Third Grade Class re-enacts the famous Lincoln-Douglas Debates during the 23rd annual Abraham Lincoln Play.
