Prime Group and Village of Huntley representatives ceremoniously broke ground at the site of the future Huntley Factory Shops outlet mall, Rt. 47 and 1-90, last Tuesday morning in Huntley.
Prime Group Breaks Ground For Huntley Factory Shops
Village of Huntley President James C. Dhamer proclaimed it a great 63rd birthday present last Tuesday when Prime Group, Inc. broke ground on Oct. 19 for a 3-phase, 400,000 sq.ft. factory outlet mall located two miles south of historic Huntley. The upscale manufacturers outlet center is the first development under construction in the 2,650-acre master planned community of Huntley surrounding the center.
With a balloon and banner launch and reception at the site, Prime Senior Vice President Timothy D. Edmond signaled the start of construction of Huntley Factory Shops. Prime representatives were joined by President Dhamer, Trustees Dennis Shamhart, Charles Becker, John Sheehan, Jack Todd and Jerry Eckel, Village . Building Inspector Butch Erhke, Village Administrator Rob Nelis, Village Attorney Mike Kukla, HFPD Fire Chief Dave Veath and other local officials in breaking ground with commemorative shovels and hard hats foi the new center
scheduled for Grand Opening in the summer of 1994.
Occupying 40 acres at the southeast corner of the community, Huntley Factory Shops is expected to generate about 1,100 full- and part- time new jobs, and millions of dollars in construction and operating contracts to area businesses. The manufacurers putlet center will also bring value shopping with everyday discounts of 25-70% off retail prices on women's, men's and children's apparel, house¬ wares, home furnishings and accessories found in the factory-direct stores.
Phase 1 of Huntley Factory Shops will consist of approximately 186,000 sq.ft., including 50 retail merchants and an expansive food court. The center's Jeffersonian- style architecture, pedestrian -friendly courtyards and landscaped walkways are sure to attract crowds from both the immediate community and visitors to the area. Two expansion phases are planned.
Huntley Factory Shops will serve as a gateway to the community of Huntley, being
developed by Prime Group, a leading diversified real estate company located in Chicago. Described as one of Chicagoland's first compre¬ hensive master planned communities, the 2,650 acre mixed-use development calls for a total integration of land uses, including homes for almost 4,000 families, schools, a corporate campus, business park, retail centers, restaurants and hotels, all linked by a network of open space and recreational amenities, including two proposed 18-hole championship golf courses, interconnecting lakes and abundant green spaces.
Inspired by the nearby Village of Huntley, the "friendly village with country charm" founded in 1851, this new hometown concept will offer its residents a unique and affordable lifestyle currently not available in the Chicago area. Land to build this mixed-use development was annexed by the Village of Huntley during 1993.
"We are grateful for the support and guidance from the
Prime Group Senior Vice President Tim Edmond thanked the Village of Huntley for its cooperation and commitment to their project.
Village of Huntley officials, all of whom have helped make the development of Huntley Factory Shops a reality," said Edmond. "The Huntley Community was planned to become the blueprint for modern living and working."
"As outlet retailing is the shopping trend for the future, we are excited to be at the forefront of this project with the opportunity to serve the future shopping needs of residents of Huntley and nearby Chicagoland," added Edmond.
Commenting on the new development, President Dhamer said, "There is much excitement about this new community which will bring jobs and economic growth to the area: The Prime team has demonstrated an honest commitment to preserving the 140 year history of the Village of Huntley. This on-going partnership will
ensure the successful completion of this project in the years to come."
