Chamber Honors Huntley Farmside 35th Anniversary
By Tracey Schwartz
This weekend the Huntley Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry will honor The Huntley Fannside newspaper's 35th anniversary at Huntley Business Expo '95 in Huntley High School's Delaney Gym. In celebration there will be Farmside memorabilia on display and free copies of this issue at the chamber booth.
The first issue of The Huntley Farmside was created and produced by Dennis Q. "Scoop" O'Brien and his fiancee, Suzanne LeGrand, on April 7, 1960. Over the years the newspaper grew into a family enterprise with Scoop and Suzanne and their three sons, Quinn, Scott and Jim, each contributing to the success of the weekly community tabloid.
Through the 1970's Scoop continued to deliver Huntley its "hometown newspaper" with his new wife. Marge, and their three children, Heather, Shawn and Beth. During Scoop's illness and extended hospitalization, the staff kept the Farmside coming out on schedule.
After the death of Scoop
Suzanne Brown, publisher of The Huntley Farmside
O'Brien in 1986 Suzanne Legrand Brown took ownership of The Huntley Farmside again. Brown, assisted by the local staff, has managed the newspaper as sole owner from her home in California ever since. Today, Karen Kohley, Joyce LipuL Margie Hughes, Tracey Schwartz, Melissa Cavill, Sue Fabros and Sally
Archambeault along with the help of many stringers, columnists and delivery. personnel, strive to provide the same folksy, family- oriented, good news, hometown newspaper as was begun thirty-five years ago.
