Options Reviewed At ComEd Meeting
By Cathy DeQuaker Huntley Chamber of Commerce
The villages of Huntley and Gilberts and the Huntley Chamber of Commerce sponsored a public awareness meeting last Tuesday evening in regards to the ComEd Power Line issue. Approximately 150 residents and interested parties filled the high school cafeteria to hear attorney, Robert Fitzsimmons, hired by the Prime Group, speak on the burying of the ComEd lines for its Far Northwest Project. Associate professor of the University of Tennessee Space Institute, Ed Parkinson, has been hired to study the cost difference in burying the lines. Parkinson informed the attendees of the reduction of electromagnetic fields. In his studies over the years, he found the fields to break apart living cells in the body.
Attorney Fitzsimmons advised landowners not to make deals with ComEd for right of way land until they met with village officials and each other. Fitzsimmons also stated ComEd should not be blamed for the need for power that has been created. The power is needed due to the growth in this entire area. Village officials from Huntley and Gilberts are aggressively seeking the 4 1/2 miles of wire be buried underground instead of on 100-ft towers.
ComEd is looking for the most cost-effective way to bring power to the growing area. Parkinson's cost-effective approach is to "do it right the first time." Since the lines will be here for a long time, burying them now means decreasing health litigations from EMF effects in the future and eliminating storm damage effects. Parkinson continued to study the costs estimated to bury the lines. His figures were presented at a meeting with ComEd on April 18 at 1:30pm at the Algonquin Area Library.
The Easter Bunny arrived at Deicke Park on a Huntley fire truck for the annual egg hunt.
Visiting the Easter Bunny was a popular past-time at the annual egg hunt in Deicke Park last Saturday.
