Grand jury indicts alleged shooter of Marengo man

A Kane County Grand Jury found enough probable cause TUesday to indict John Carroccia of shooting Hampshire Police Sgt. Gregory Sears June 1.
The indictment for two counts of first degree mur¬ der came a week after Carroccia's family raised the required 10 percent for his $5 million bond. He was released from the Kane County Jail June 13.
However, while the Grand Jury and Kane County
Sheriff's Office investigators believe they have their man, no clear motive has been publicly released.
Sheriff's Capt. Mike Anderson said investigators are still working out the details of why Carroccia would have killed Sears, who had been a close lifelong friend up until just a few few months ago. Anderson would not speculate on the exact reasons why Carroccia may have shot Sears, but from court doc¬ uments filed by the Kane County State's Attorney, it appears Carroccia and Sears may have been involved in a bizarre love triangle.
Court documents allege Carroccia was jealous of Sears. That jealousy may have stemmed from Sears' recent marriage May 17. Speculation includes jealousy over a 17-year relationship Sears had with another woman up until recently, and that Carroccia may have been involved with the woman following the breakup with Sears.
There has also been some specu¬ lation from Carroccia's defense attorney Stephen Komie over Sears' will, which had been revised and notarized the day of his death. In
