Huntley "Scientists" Win Big At Regionals

On Saturday, April 9th, a group of Huntley Jr. High eighth graders headed to DeKalb to compete in the Regional Science Fair. Only thirteen science projects, receiving outstanding awards from the local Huntley Science Fair (held on March 8th) could go on to the regional competition.
Huntley had its best showing in a long time this year in the Regional Science Fair. Katie Holtz, received a
First Place Award on her project, and therefore, will
be going on to state
competition in the near future. Congratulations - and good luck at the State Science Fair.
Honorary First Place Awards were given to seven of the Huntley projects. The students who worked on those projects were: Tim Hoeft, Scott Stier, Megan Borhart, Chandra Bakley, Karina Wych,
Lisa Ravagnie, Becky Weber, Kelly Reynolds, Lisa Seeman and Molly Oldham.
Also, Scott Stier received a book (to donate to the library in his name) and a $50.00 check from the Nuclear Society for his project involving engineering.
We want to take this time to let all of you know how proud we are of you and your projects. We wish you all the best in whatever you pursue!
Burn Camp Kids Need Your Help To Rll The Boot

For the past several years, firefighters from the Huntley Fire Dept. have had a "Fill The Boot" campaign. On May 6-7, the proceeds from our boot drive will help send young burn victims to camp this summer. These are children between the ages of 8-17 that have been scarred for life from burns.
Burn Camp is held at the YMCA Camp Duncan, located near Fox Lake. The camp is
approximately 400 acres on semi-private Fish Lake. Activities include boating, sailing, canoeing, fishing, archery, cmapouts, horseback riding, hiking, crafts and swimming. These young children can play and have fun together, sharing their experiences, and not feel self conscious about what others may be thinking of their scars. The Illinois Fire Safety
Alliance Burn Camp, in cooperation with your local fire dep'artment and burn care facility, can make a difference for these unfortunate children. Look for the firefighters in the red vests that say "Help Burned Kids." They need your help.
Make this summer a time lo remember for these youthful victims.

Volunteers Sweep Garbage Clean Out Of Huntley

The first "Clean Sweep Huntley" event, sponsored by the Huntley Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry, had approximately 40 volunteers cleaning up the town. Dr. William Awe, Chairman of the project, organized.the event by dividing the group into six teams. These teams went throughout the village filling approximately 150 bags with garbage.
The event was the kick off to Earth Week, being held April 18-22. The volunteer crews consisted of Boy Scout Troop 167, Girl Scout Troops 194 & 134. Huntley Jaycees, Mayor Dhamer, Public Works Director Jim Schwartz and several residents of Hu-ntley and their children. Chamber members were Dr. William and Jane Awe, Huntley Chiropractic and Massage Therpy; Steve and Cathy DeQuaker, Essency Desk¬ top Creations; Bernice Bakley, Woodstock Travel; Wade Runge, Bunge & Associates; Jim Henry,
American Family Insurance; Chris Parker, Custom Color Creations, Inc.; Roger Henderson, Ace Hardware; Tracey Schwartz, The Huntley
Farmside; and Diane Merchut, Home Town Travel Service. The chamber would like to thank Marengo Disposal for their donation of dumpsters and garbage bags, the Huntley Seniors for donating baked goods to feed the volunteers, Chris Parker for his donation of Clean Sweep Huntley.hats for the team leaders and to all those who donated their pickup trucks to haul the garbage lo the dumpsters.
Dr. William Awe was presented with a gold broom and a certificate of appreciation at the chamber board meeting for his efforts in orgaizing the event. Thanks Huntley for a successful project, rhe chamber is looking forward to cleaning up Hunlley in. 1995.
