Meeting
The regular monthly meeting of the Huntley Planning Commission was called to order at 7:30 pm on October 9, 1989, by Chairman Wilmer Rohlwing. Those members of the board present were Darick Franzen, Paul Mercer, Jack Daum, Ed Domagalski and Robert Schachtner. Also present was Mayor Dhamer and Building Inspector Schaller.
The minutes of the meeting of September 11, 1989 were read. Mr. Domagalski moved to accept the minutes as read. Mr. Franzen seconded. Motion carried. The agenda was read.
The first order of business was presented by Pete Boll of Repco. They plan to put up a 15,100 square foot building on Lot 3 of Smith Drive for Combustion Engineering. Baxter ii Woodman had a few changes for them to make, which have been done. The September 25 and October 6, 1989, letters from Baxter ii Woodman were read. Baxter ii Woodman are requesting that an lEPA permit be obtained. Mr. Boll said, if necessary, they will apply. The south end of the plans show for trailer parking on gravel. No gravel parking is allowed. Mr. Boll said all other parking and traffic areas will be paved and this one area is for trailer storage only. The board requested that the entire area be paved.
Mr. Mercer moved to accept
the plans by Repco for Lot 3
of Smith Drive as presented
with changes we suggested for
blacktopping trailer parking
area. Mr. Daum seconded. Roll
call vote was as follows: Franzen, pass; Schachtner,

(0) nays, motion carried.
The next order of business
was presented by George
Athans for the Sierra Retail
Center. Their fees of $145
have been paid. This is for
plans for gas station,
convenience store and car
wash on Route 47 across from
Huntley Grade School. They
have changed plans, but
essentially same, moved
building further south, other
buildings further north.

Redskins
Homecoming
Victory!
The Redskins Homecoming game started quietly, holding the score 0-0. Then the second half started...
Mike Lekics, playing on a sprained ankle, ran a 3-yard TD and a 41-yard scoring pass, along with a safety, all in the third quarter and two two-point conversions. Brian Elwood led the Redskins' rushing with 13 carries fo 60 yards.
A victory is always great., a Homecoming victory is the greatest! Congratulations!
Parents Night
Thursday, October 19 has been set aside as parent's night for the high school girls' Frosh/Soph and Varsity Volleyball teams. Friday, October 20, has been set aside as parent's night for member of this year's Frosh/Soph and Varsity Football teams as well as Frosh/Soph and Varsity Cheerleaders and Marching Band.
Congregational Church Handbell Choir Brunch
On Sunday, November 12, the 1st Congregational Church of Huntley Handbell Choirs will be serving a brunch from 8:30 -12:00 in the church's social hall. Tickets are $4.50 for adults and $2.50 for children under 12. They may be purchased from any handbell choir member, or at the door on the day of the brunch. Chicken ala King will be served as well as scrambled eggs, hash, sausage, tacos, a huge variety of salads and some great homemade desserts! Come on out and treat your taste buds!
Big "8" Choral Festival
Huntley High School's 63 member concert choir has been working diligently in preparation for the Annual Big "8" Choral Festival on October 30th. Students from various high schools in the conference will spend the afternoon rehearsing with our dynamic guest conductor, Mr. Wayne Easley. The culmination of the festival will be a concert at 7:30 PM. at Harvard High School. We hope you will be able to join us for an exciting musical evening.
Redskins - Volleyball Tournament Champs
The Huntley Redskins Volleyball team proved themselves winners again during the volleyball tournament held at Huntley High School, Saturday, October 14.
The Redskin champs achieved over-all victory with 5 wins: Jacobs: 15-11, 15-12 Wheaton Christian: 15-10, 15-5 Johnsburg: 15-8, 15-1 St. Ed's: 15-4, 15-8 Marian: 15-10, 15-10    ¦ Congratulations, girls!
Girl Scouts Win Trophies At Settlers Day
"Girl Scouting is Caring and Sharing" was the theme of the Winnebago Girl Scouts entries in the Marengo Settlers Day Parade Sunday,   October 8.
Over 150 helping hands surrounded the float which housed 5 cornstalk dolls dressed for each level of Scouting and 8 girls portraying the theme. The Master of Ceremony was overwhelmed; commenting on our community effort and participation as 140 girls and 15 adults marched past the reviewing stand.
Suzanne Musgrave, Neighborhood Chairman, Martha Smith and Stephanie Musgrave of Huntley, and Bernice Johnston, Activities Chairman, Cassie Schultz and Stafanie Johnston of Marengo were proud to accept the "1st Place Walking Unit" and "Youth Group" trophies.
Our thanks go to Kenneth Musgrave for the use of a hay wagon and for pulling our float; J.H. Patterson of Huntley and the Huntley Supermarket for float supplies; Chris' Hallmark of Marengo for filling our balloons and to the girls and the leaders for a job well done.
Recyle Bin Moved
The Recycling Center has been moved from the shopping center to the Public Works Building, located on the south side of Main Street at the east edge of town.

Fun Run
Who were those people running through the streets of Huntley last Saturday?! They were participants in Huntley Park District's Fun Run! both a 2 mile and a lOK (6.2 miles) race was held. Winners of the 2 mile race were; 14-17 age division, Mark Melman, 15 minutes (over all winner). Under 13 age division, Kelly Hurley, 30-39 age division, Carolyn Kaczmarski, 1st place Sa Mary Yeager, 2nd place. In the 6 mile race, the winners were, 30-39 age division. Randy Schiezelt, 45 minutes, 38 seconds (over all winner), Ray Hurley, 2nd place Si Keith Jauch, Srd place. In the 40-49 age division. Bill Anderson was the winner, and in the 50-59 age division, Jim Howell was the winner.
Sponsors besides the Park District were, Huntley Supermarket and the State Bank of Huntley. Dean Foods donated yogurt which was served following the race.
Larry Melman co-ordinated the event and the helpers were: Stephanie Drougas, the Huntley Boy Scouts, Alan Cole, Michele Diedrick, Guy Voss, Terry, Tracy, Dayna & Quinn Frihart, Linda Mulcahy, Charlie Olson, Don Berry, Michelle Schifo, Cheryl Thackwray, Jenice Pepoon, Judy Melman, Connie Lombard & Betsy Warrington.

Grades Pre-K - 5 will be given pumpkins on Friday, Oct. 27th at school. Any interested students in grades 6-12 may pick up a pumpkin in front of the elementary school between 2-3:00 p.m. Decorate or carve your pumpkin and return to the office in Deicke Park. Drop off between 3-6:30 p.m. Judging will be at 7:00 p.m. at the Park District Halloween Party.
There will be 4 age groups: 3-6 years, 7-10 years, 11-13 years and 14 - High School and 3 categories: funniest, scariest and most original.
The pumpkins and prizes will be donated by "Friends of Huntley Library".
