Huntley Parents Learn New Skills, Kids Play By Sue Fabros On Saturday, March 11, Huntley School District #158, the Huntley Park District and the Huntley PTA sponsored "Living and Learning As A Family." This event was held at the Hundey grade school. It was an informative and fun day for the entire family. Parents were able to attend two different morning sessions. Various topics to choose from included: "Surviving Your Teens", "Parent Networking", "Family Self-Esteem", "Help! My Child is Hyperactive", "Homework: Easing the Pain" and "Underachievement." After lunch a terrific speech was given by Bill Johnson, a youth consultant and motivational speaker. While parents were busy with their sessions, the children were entertained with games, stories, crafts, bingo and more. A lunch was available to all for a nominal fee. The kids had a great time, but more importantly parents learned some new methods to help their children deal with self-esteem problems, study problems and many other relevant topics. The speakers had many tips and suggestions to help parents become better parents, as the job of raising children seems to get tougher and tougher. Programs like this help and support parents in their efforts to raise happy, healthy families. Hopefully, this community will be lucky enough to have our school, park district and PTA sponsor this program again next year.
