They first opened their doors in the Huntley Center on Rt. 47 on April 1, 1974. Since then they have grown with the community, expanding into a new, larger store in Huntley Center just two years ago. The Aliens invite the community to celebrate with them this week with savings specials, pop and pizza tastings, and many more surprises. See their ad on the back page of this issue for more information about their 20th Anniversary Sale. Chamber Plans To Clean Sweep Huntley By Dr. William Awe, Clean Sweep Chairman Spring is here and it's time to get our town in shape and looking good again! Huntley Chamber's Clean - Sweep project is only a few weeks away and here are the details you need to know to help make our town beautiful! On Saturday, April 16, 9am to 12 noon, we will begin the morning by meeting at Deicke ¦ Park to divide into teams and explain procedures. Our goals are to divide Huntl^ into 4 quadrants - beginning at the outer edges and working towards the town center to our collection site. Four team leaders will monitor and guide their groups along various streets towards the Town Square. Once all teams arrive around noon - Mayor Dhamer will dedicate the day with a brief ceremony. This is a pilot program, therefore we will need a lol of cooperation and participa¬ tion from all of our volunteers. Since we have many youth groups partici¬ pating in this project - we will need adequate adult supervision and guidance. Anyone can join in and help. From picking up trash to driving team vehicles to supervising the kids by the roads - many hands and eyes are needed to make this event a safe success. Four volunteers are needed to be team leaders. These individuals will meet their team on Saturday morning. The teams may consist of members of your organization or a mix of volunteers. We also need four pick-up trucks and drivers to carry our volun¬ teers and collections down the street. All volunteers should wear protective work gloves and may want to.bring a trash poker, broom, or rake to use during the morning. Leaders' positions need to be filled by April 11. 1994. If someone in your organiza¬ tion would like to be a leader please contact me as soon as possible. We will have a brief meeting before the event at 8:30am to discuss specifics. A collection dumpster and trash bags are being donated by Marengo Disposal Co. - Mr. Hank DeBoer. We would like to thank them in advance for their help! Of 20 groups contacted - 16 have already expressed interest and pledged support of the Clean-Sweep Project! If your group needs more information or a presentation at a meeting - I will be happy to serve your needs. This may truly become a whole community effort - but only if you join us too. A clean town shows pride and honor. Everyone will benefit from a few hours work on Saturday morning. We hope to see you continued on page 2
