The Huntley High School Girls Volleyball team beat Milledgeville in the Super Sectionals on November 8 and won the right to face Tolono Unity on Friday, Nov 14 in their fourth straight bid to bring home a trophy from the Illinois State Championship. Hundreds of Huntley fans followed the team downstate to cheer them on. It was celebration time on Friday as the Lady Redskins won a decisive two-game victory over Tolono Unity in the Class A quarterfinals in Normal's Redbird Arena. The serve is what won this match for the Redskins. Behind the superlative jump serving and hitting of senior Becky Weber and some outstanding setting from senior Chrissy Pfaff, Huntley beat Tolono Unity 15-6, 15-5. The win against Tolono Unity assured Huntley of its fourth straight trophy from the state tournament. In the Saturday semifinal, the Kansas nine were just too strong for Huntley. Taking the momentum of a 16-14 first-game win, Kansas won the second game 15-3. Kansas took away any momentum Huntley tried to establish by stopping Becky Weber's jump serve. After destroying Tolono Unity in Friday's quarterfinals with her jump serve, Becky had only 1 point in the semifinal match Huntley suffered another disappointing loss in the Saturday aftemoon third place bid falling to Ml Pulaski 15-13, 15-10. Following the game, Huntley Coach Larry Kahl was quoted as saying, "We played better than we did this moming and better than we did (Friday) but it just wasn't enough. Even though the Redskins broke out to a 6-0 lead in the first game, they couldn't sustain the advantage. The Lady Redskins walked away with a fourth place finish. In five state tournament appearances this decade, Huntley has earned second twice, fourth twice and third once. Kahl has amassed a record of 214-36-1 in seven years as head coach and he praised this season's squad, which had nine seniors and finished 36-7 Good Job Lady Redskins! Hundey is proud of you!
