Every October in the U.S. since 1920 a week is observed as Fire Prevention Week. This past week of October 5th-11th was iPire Prevention Week. The Huntley Fire Prevention Bureau planned a number of activities (including fire drills, assemblies, poster contest and more) throughout our schools and the community.
This year the theme is "Know Where To Go! React To Fire Fast!" Huntley Elementary students in grades 1 through 5 participated in a poster contest, in which each student depicted hisAier own individual ideas on a poster while incorporating this year's Fire Prevention Theme. The winners of the poster contest (a boy and girl from each grade) rode around town in the Huntley Fire Truck and got their names and photos in the local newspaper
All the poster entries were great, but only 10 posters were chosen. The winners of the poster contest were as follows: Dylan Wiese and Jenna Solarz (1st grade), Matthew

Huntley Firefighters To Hold Annual "Freezer Fill"
On Saturday, October 18, 1997 the Huntley Firefighter's Associa¬ tion will be having their 2nd annual Freezer-Fill. Gift certificates from local food-chain stores will be available this year. With the holidays just around the corner these items will come in handy.
Proceeds from this event will be used to fund various community-oriented programs offered to the public through the Association.
This year's event will once again be held at Parkside Tap beginning at 7:00pm. Come join the fun and win a chance to take home a spiral-cut ham, turkey, bacon, etc.
The association and it's members would like to thank Mark and Cindy McDonald for the use of their establishment for this very worthy cause.

Find Great Buys This Weekend At Fall Rummage Sale
Don't forget to stop by this weekend - Friday, October 17 - 8am to 5pm and Saturday, October 18 - 8am to 12pm - and fmd some great buys at the First Congregational Church Women's Circle Giant Fall Rummage Sale. Unexpected treasures, you won't be able to pass up, include clothing, accessories, household items, books, and some furniture. Saturday, Octot>er 18 will once again feature "$2.00 a Bag" day, so come in and see how much you can fit into a paper bag for only $2.00. Proceeds from the sale benefit the First Congregational Church of Huntley which serves not only its members, but also a variety of community organizations that use the church for meetings. The church is located on the corners of Church and Main Streets.
New Huntley Area Public Library Facility
Design sketches and a three-dimensional model of the proposed new Huntley Area Public Library facility are now available and on display at the Library. The design includes a great room with vaulted ceiling and a fireplace.
At a recent meeting, the Board of Library Trustees of the Huntley Area Public Library District voted to add a partial or full basement to the building as well as a public meeting room, pending availability of funding.
