Walters as the new Chief of Police, effective October 16, 1995. Walters, a twenty-six year veteran of the Northbrook, Illinois Police Department, was chosen from a group of 60 applicants after an intensive testing and screening process. Walters is currently assigned as the Commander of Investigations for Northbrook, which is a community of 34,000, located 25 miles north of Chicago andemploys62 sworn police officers. Walters is a graduate ofthe Southern Police Institute, University of Louisville and the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, two of the most prestigious Law Enforcement management schools in the country. He is currently attending the Executive Management Program, which is conducted jointly by Northwestern University and the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board and is designed to be the future Police Chiefs certification requirement in Illinois. He will graduate in late October. Walters is 50 years old and has been married to his wife, Linda for 26 years. They presently reside in Northbrook but are looking for a home in Huntley. They have a daughter. Lacy, 20, who is has completed 2 years at Illinois State and is currently attending Oakton Community College to prepare for nursing school. Their son Matt, 18, plans to attend Illinois State in the spring. Walters is well known and respected in the law enforcement community and brings an extensive background of professional experience and tia'iing to the Huntley Police Department. Huntley High announcesHomecoming plans Over 30 parents and concerned citizens attended the Homecoming Parade planning meeting Monday night, Sept. 25, at Huntley High School. This year's Homecoming theme will be "Music Moves the World." New high school principal, DaveJohnson, announced definite plans were made for the 1995 Himtley High School Homecoming Parade to be held Friday, Oct. 6, at approximately 2pm. Community businesses and organizations are invited tojoin in with floats, trucks, or any other suggestions that would enhance the parade. Anyone interested should contact Johnson at the high school by at least Oct. 4 to enable them to make plans. Johnson says,"the more the merrier." Huntley businesses are encouraged toaddcommunity spirit with window decorating, showing team support. Student assistance is available through the high school if needed. Meanwhile, the school is gearing Marengo Settlers' Days to include Pinochle Tournament up for their own Homecoming activities. School float building will beheldMoniay thru Thursday, 5:30- 9pm in the bus bam. Parents and teacher will work together to aid and supervise the students' efforts. Extra help is always welcome. The school halls, of course, will be decorated with school spirit. As usual. Homecoming week includes a week of "special dress-up days"all following the"Music" theme: M.- altemative; Tu.-country; W.-rock n'roli; Th.-folk or hard rock; and F- jazz & blues. The big Homecoming games begin Oct. 6 with the junior varsity game at 5:30pm, followed immediately by thevarsity game. Saturday night, students trade football gear for fancy dress to attend the Homecoming dance from 8-11pm in the gym. A new event for this year's Settler's Daysis a pinochle tournament. The tournament will take place Saturday, October 7, 1995 beginning atlpm. Sponsored by some of the members of Zion Lutheran Church's Board of Directors, the tournament will be held in the multi-purpose room at Zion Lutheran Church. Pinochle played will be five-card, progressive. No gambling is allowed Singles and couples are urged to register for this afternoon of flin. Anyone high school age to 100 years old is welcome to participate. The registration fee is $5 per person and prizes will be awarded. A concession stand will be provided. Length of th tournament will depend on the number of players. Persons wishing to participate should register by calling Sherry Roberts at 815/568-7168, Norenne Dunkerat815/568-8430,orinperson at the Zion Lutheran Church office or at the Heart of Marengo office at 115 W.Prairie Street.
