SERVING THE PEOPLE OF HUNTLEY SINCE 1960 Wi^t JHuntlep futm^iht UPS 580-360 THURSDAY MAY 9, 1996 - VOLUME 36, NUMBER 5 - HUNTLEY, ILLINOIS TWENTY-FIVE CENTS m ^— 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th Graders Raise $9825.81 for Heart Assoc Huntley 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders, 270 strong participated in a Jump Rope for Heart fund raiser sponsored by the American Heart Association. The students, parents, and teachers jumped this year in honor of Bill Leggee, a retired Huntley teacher who has dealt wilh heart disease first hand. The Gold Medal winner (and the highest money raiser) was Katie Kempisty. The six silver medalists included Elizabeth Kempisty, Chris Stuve, Stephanie Neff, Todd Brunschon, Bryana Shergold, Jason Marshall. Mrs. Oldham's 4th grade class raised the most money and won a soccer ball for their efforts. Mrs. Grimm's 3rd grade class was the runner-up and won a football for their classroom. The $200 club's newest members include Katie Kempisty, Elizabeth Kempisty, and Chris Stuve. The SlOO club's new members include Katie Kempisty, Elizabeth Kempisty, Chris Stuve, Stephanie Neff, Todd Brunschon, Bryana Shergold, Jason Marshall, Brad Sass, Ashley Coale, Ashley, Funk, Ashley Grodski, Brian Suchecki, Mallery Janis, Charles Wickersheim, Colleen Kalner, and Michael Wesa. these students raised S2056.25. Special prizes for this event were donated by The Huntley Factory Shops, Dean's Foods, and McDonald's. iJandbell Concert By Helen Marlowe The Trinity Lutheran Church and the First Congregational Church of Huntley will present a combined Handbell Concert, May 19th at 7:00pm, at the First Congregational Church. Refreshments will be served. Bring your friends for an evening of musical entertainment. A good will offering will be taken. Engineering Firm Honors Huntley's Loyalty Don Schwegel, President of Baxter & Woo(3man, presented Mayor Dhamer and the Huntley Village Board with a plaque commemorating 50 years of friendship. Baxter & Woodman, Consulting Engineers of Crystal Lake, recently honored the Village of Huntley for 50 years pf friendship and loyalty. The local engineering firm has been providing services to the Village since 1946. The dale was April 4,1946 when then-Village President Henry Ackman signed the first engineering services contract with Baxter & Woodman. The project: design of a new sanitary sewer system and sewage treatment plant funded by the Illinois Post-War Planning Commission. Since then, the engineers have worked hand in hand with Village officials through many projects that have brought Huntley to where il is today. The firm has played an instrumental role in assisting the Village in meeting their water, wastewater, and transportation needs and planning to sustain the orderly and successful growth of the Village. Don Schwegel, President of Baxter & Woodman, presented Mayor Dhamer and the Board wilh a plaque commemorating the firm's appreciation for the 50-year friendship. Said Don: "We sincerely appreciate Ihe opportunity to be of service to the Village of Huntley. We've made many friends and seen many changes throughout the years. We hope our next 50 years together will be as successful as the first 50!" The local engineering firm, founded January 18, 1946, is celebrating its 50lh anniversary. Located in the heart of McHenry County, Baxter & Woodman provides consulting engineering services to many surrounding communities and industry. Russian Major General To Speak In Huntley Russian General Borisov will be speaking at Morning Star World Outreach Church in Huntley on Saturday, May 11, 1996 at 2pm. Seventeen years a General of Russia's Red Army and a career officer of 36 years. Major General Vychesslav Borisov is one of Russia's most highly decorated war heros. As Deputy Commanding Field Marshall of the Soviet Union during the war with Afghanistan, General Borisov was given the code name "General War" by the Pentagon of the United Stales military. He was feared as a combat General and a $1,500,000 bounty was put on his head. It was at this, the pinnacle of his communist career, God intervened. While on a mission in the Afghan mountains of Panchar, the Generals fleet of helicopters came under heavy fire from the Afghan Rebels. Soon the personal helicopter of General Borisov was falling to the ground. Believing his life was over General Borisov cried out to God for mercy. The fatal tragedy took the lives of his entire staff, miraculously General Borisov's life was spared. It was this reprieve from death thai caused communist and atheist General Borisov to acknowledge there is a God who does in deed work in the lives of men. The purpose of his trip to the United Stales is to molivalc people lo minister to the soldiers on the Army bases of Russia and generate interest and resources for the printing of the Bibles being distributed to the soldiers. A bom again Christian General Borisov is vice-president of the commitlee for spiritual regenera¬ tion, that oversees Russia's new military chaplaincy. He has spearheaded the distribution of bibles lo Russia's Red Army and thus far has distributed over 500,000 soldiers a copy of the Bible in this project. Morning Star World Ouireach Church is located at 41W350 Powers Road in Huniley just north of the 1-90 Rt. 47 exit. Rev. Stephen and Mary Foster are the Senior Pastors. Mother's Day Breakfast Treat Mom or Grandma lo a special Mother's Day breakfast of pancakes, eggs and sausage and help your local Boy Scouts at the same time! This Sunday, May 12th, the Huntley Boy Scouts will be sponsoring a Mother's Day Pancake Breakfast at the American Legion. Breakfast will be served from Sam to Ipm. Tickets are available from any Huntley Boy Scout and will be available at the door. This breakfast is a fund- raiser that helps finance camping trips and projects for the Boy Scouts. Huntley Fire Dept Conducts Burn Down Drill The Huntley Fire Department held a training drill for firefighters last Sunday, May 5. The drill took place at a farm on Albrecht Road beginning at 6:00 a.m. Three buildings, (a house, a garage, and a barn) slated for demolition, were donated by Concord Development Corp for this training exercise. The Bam and garage were partially demolished before being burned to eliminate risk to structures on adjacent property. Fires were set using various combustibles such as hay and wooden pallets, and set in various ways to give the firefighters a chance to practice different firefighting techniques. Bum Downs such as this one, and other drills, are part of the ongoing training program of the Huniley Fire Department. The Department is currently taking applications for additional firefighters.
