Assessment Equalization Factor
McHenry County has been issued a tentative property assessment equalization factor of 1.0766, according to Roger D. Sweet, Director of the Illinois Department of Revenue.
The property assessment equalizatior. factor, often called the "multiplier" is the method used to achieve uniform property assessments among counties as required by law. This equalization is particularly important because some of the state's 6,600 local taxing districts overlap into two or more counties (e.g. school districts, junior college districts, fire protection districts). If there was no equalization among counties, substantial inequities among taxpayers with comparable properties would result.
State law requires property in Illinois to be assessed at one-third (1/3) of its market value. Farm property is assessed differently, with farm homesites and dwellings subject to regular assessing and equalization procedures, but with farmland and farm buildings assessed according to standards based on productivity.
The equalization factor is determined annually for each county by comparing the sales price of individual property sold over the past three years to the assessed value placed on those properties by the county supervisor of assessments/ county assessor.
If this three-year average level of assessment is 1/3 of market value, the equaliz¬ ation factor will be one. If the average level of assessment is greater than
1/3 of market value, the equalization factor will be less than one. And if the average level of assessment is less than 1/3 of market value, the equalization factor will be greater than one.
Assessments in McHenry County are at 30.96 percent of market value, based on sales of properties in 1985, 1986 and 1987.
"Science Fair Here At Long Last!
For the past several months the 7th and 8th graders of Huntley Jr. High School have been working hard on individual science projects. Seventh grade students' projects could be made up of a collection of data, a process demonstration, or model building in a demonstration project. Eighth grade students' projects covered months of data collection in an experimental project of some form.
Mr. Ryskoski, Jr. High Science teacher, was always available for help and assistance in any phase of the students' projects. Mr. Blake and Mrs. Oldham, Language Arts teachers, assisted the sutdents in writing the '
required project written material.
Completed projects were presented to the class during February. Then the big day arrived. The students' projects were put on display in the school gym on Thursday, March 2nd. Judging of the projects took place directly after school that same day. Experimental projects competed for the "outstanding" position to be able to attend the Regional Science Competition in DeKalb.
Every student who entered a project for the Science Fair received a ribbon (whether it be Outstanding, 1st, 2nd or 3rd Place) at the Awards Ceremony on Thursday evening, March 2nd.
Congratulations to those students in the "Outstanding Position!" They are Penny Piske, Dominicia Harlan, Kelly Cook, Anand Kumar, Tara Shamhart, Chris Myers, Jessica Garcia, Ami Hecht, Jacki Greve and Mike Brown.
Congratulations to each and every student who participated in the Science Fair!
The students wish to thank their teachers for their help. Also, of course, thanks to their parents (and/or other relatives) for their assistance in the making of their projects!
The Science Fair is an annual event, which was put together under the direction of Mr. Ryskoski, who did an excellent job. Thanks, also, goes to the team of judges for their time in this special event.
Meet The Candidates
On Saturday, March 18th, registered voters of Grafton Township, Village of Huntley and the Huntley Park District will have an opportunity to meet the candidates for the April 4th election.
The Huntley Senior Center will host a "coffee" at the Huntley American Legion for
all registered voters from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
You will have an opportu¬ nity to talk to each individual candidate. The Huntley area and Grafton Township are growing and many new faces have surfaced on the political scene. If you
are a registered voter, this is your chance to become acquainted with the candi¬ dates that you will be voting for in the April 4th elec¬ tion. Those persons you elect will be spending your tax dollars for the next four years. It is important that we elect only the best people for those offices.
