The Huntley High School Girls Volleyball team beat Milledgeville in the Super Sectionals on November 8. They face Tolono Unity on Friday, Nov 14 in a bid to win the Illinois State Championship title. Referendum Results Reprinted from School District No 158 Administrative Bulletin As you are undoubtedly aware, the referendum on November 4th fell 23 votes short of approval. The final count was 504 for and 526 against. The election had a small turn out with only about half as many showing up at the polls as voted at the last referendum in November of 1994 Voters from the Lake in the Hills and Algonquin area of the school district (east) approved the question by more than two to one. However, most of the rest of the school district did not agree, especially in the western portion of the school district where less than 40% of the voters voted yes. The Board of Education is evaluating the results and studying options. The next opportunity for a referendum is next March 17th. Radio DJs Plan Appearances at Factory Shops Huntley Factory Shops will host four radio personalities from Chicagoland's favorite radio stations during personal appearances throughout the holiday season. Continued on Page 24 Magnolia at Southwind in Huntley Wins Design Award for Cambridge Pictured above is Cambridge Homes' Magnolia model at Southwind in Huntley which won a Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago Key Award for architectural design for single-family homes from 1,601 to 2,000 square feet. Cambridge Companies, which include Cambridge Homes and Lexington Homes, were a major award winner at the recent 1997 Key Awards Banquet. A total of 12 Key Awards in a variety of categories including landscape architecture along with architecture design and interior design were accepted by the company. The annual Key Awards event, presented by the Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago, recognizes outstanding achieve¬ ments in several categories such as land planning, landscape architecture, architectural design, single-family detached, multi- family attached, interior merchandising and best overall community ity. Now in its 25th year, the Key Awards received 310 entries which included 12 divisions. Following strict professional guidelines, teams of three judges evaluated entries in each category and rated them on individual criteria. Three Bronze Key Awards were presented to Cambridge Homes. One award was presented to The Magnolia at Southwind in Huntley for architectural design for single-family homes from 1,601 to 2,000 square feet Organizational Meeting of School District 158 Board of Education New Learning Resource Center named to honor retiring President Jim Heavey Reprinted from School District No 158 Administrative Bulletin Thanks to the four retiring members of the Board of Education. They are: Jim Heavey, Rich Hansen, Kevin Ellison, Chuck Ruth. Welcome to the four new members of the Board of Education. They are: Frank Coleman, John Garven, Michael Skala, Ann Leslie. They have been elected to serve a four-year term in office. With the change in the election law, their terms may be a few months longer than four years. Before their term expires, school board elections will be changed back to spring elections. At the organizational meeting of the Board of Education on November 6th, the following resolution was adopted honoring the long and distinguished service of Jim Heavey on the Board of Education. Wheras James J. Heavey has served Consolidated School District 158 for sixteen years as member and president of the Board of Education: Whereas Consolidated School District 158 has experienced unprecedented growth and development during this time period; and Wheras Consolidated School District 158 has met the many challenges of the unprecedented growth due to the vision and leadership of James J. Heavey; Now therefore, it is hereby resolved: In recognition of his enormous commitment of time and energy, the Harmony Road Campus Secondary School Learning Resource Center shall now and ever more be named the: James J. Heavey Learning Resource Center Adopted with deep appreciation by the Board of Education of Consolidated School District 158, McHenry and Kane Counties, Illinois, on this sixth day of November in the year 1997. A plaque denoting the new name of the leaming resource center was unveiled at the meeting. The plaque is located high on the brick column at the entrance to the leaming resource center in the commons area of the Huntley Middle/High School at the Harmony Road Campus. Lighting will be installed to highlight the plaque. It is an honor that is well deserved.
