Due to the fact that Valley was unable to field a Frosh/Soph team, our Frosh/Soph team will play South Beloit beginning at 4:30 PM. This eveining has been designated as "Pack the Place". There will be no admission charged for either game this night. Pre-game activities will include displaying the class floats at 7:15 PM. During halftime the marching band will perform, winners of the class spirit award and floats will be announced and the introduction of the 1989 Homecoming King and Queen, Court and Royalty will take place. On Thursday, October 12th the traditional bonfire will be lit. This year there will be a pep rally in the Delaney Parle District Fun Run, Oct. 14 On Saturday, October 14, the Huntley Park Disttict will hold it's 2nd annual FUN RUN! Meet in front of the High School on Mill St. Race time is 8:30 AM. Check-in 7:30- 8:15. Two different runs are offered, lOK or 2 miles. The course of the race will travel around the streets in town. The entry fee is $8/$10 for non-residents Si includes a T-shirt. Refreshments will be served following the race. Medals & ribbons will be awarded to 1st, 2nd ii Srd place winners in each division, male & female. Call or stop in at the Park Office for registration forms. 14 Grade School Gym Gymnasium beginning at 7:00 PM. During the p>ep rally the 1989 King and Queen and their court and Royalty will be announced. The Athletic Booster Club will be selling refreshments and something hot, i.e. pizza, hot dogs, nachos, sandwiches or the like, during the pep rally in the foyer of the gym. Just exactly what will be served has not been determined yet. Plan on eating at school this night and supp>orting the Boosters as well as getting involved in the Pep Rally. The bonfire will follow directly after the pep rally in the south parking lot. On Friday, October 12, the homecoming parade will begin at 2:00 PM. The last event of the Homecoming activities will be the dance in the grade school gym on Saturday, October 14th. The dance will begin at 8:00 PM and ends at 11:00 PM. All alumni are welcome to attend. ^., vs # 4-H Window Display Contest Results In celebration of National 4-H Week, 19 4-H clubs in McHenry County put up promotional displays in area business and school windows. The theme for 4-H week was "4-H ~ Celebration of Choices". A Blue Award rating was presented to the Huntley Harvestors at Huntley Grade School, Huntley. The top three window displays were put up by Rush Creek Rockets, Country Dozen, and Busy Beavers. These clubs received $25, $15 and $10 cash awards respectively, which were sponsored by the McHenry County 4-H Youth Foundation. Jim Franklin washes Rev. Woodruff's Car Senior High Youth Workcampers from the First Congregational Church will be holding a "Car Wash" this Sunday, October 15, from noon to 4:00 at the Shopping Center or in the Congregational Church parking lot. The youth are launching this fund raiser as their first effort for their projected workcamp trip to Mississippi next summer. Donations, rather than a specific charge, will be the proceedure for this car wash. If weather is unfavorable, the "car wash" will be postponed to the following Sunday. Quest For Drug Free America Jim Cook represented Huntley High School at the 1989 Illinois Drug Education Alliance Conference October 1st and 2nd. He shared some of the non-competitive, problem solving techniques with fellow students at Huntley High. To demonstrate alternatives to drug use the students worked together to untangle the knot of people while not letting go of their friend's hand. the drug war in the United During the days of Oct. 1st and 2nd, the 1989 Illinois Drug Education Alliance (IDEA) Conference was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Oak Brook, 111. The purpose of this conference was to promote a drug free America. Such topics as the effects of drugs, youth alternatives to drug use, how to hold your own drug prevention seminars, how to say no to drugs, etc. Jim Cook was chosen by Family Services to be a represent¬ ative from Huntley High School during this conference. Strategies about States were talked about by guest speakers during several different periods in the conference. The first workshop that he went to was about New Games. This workshop was used as an example to show a non¬ competitive alternative to drug use. This workshop taught people how to run these games which were not competitive in order to let everyone have fun. Another workshop he attended, "The Truth About Continued on page 2 Library Friends Sponsor Pumpkin Decorating Contest Plan Your Pumpkin Now Pumpkins, donated by the "Friends of the Huntley Library", will be presented to pre-school through Sth grades on Friday, Oct. 27. Any interested students in grades 6-12 may pick up a pumpkin in front of the elementary school on that day between 2:00-3:00pm. Decorate or carve your pumpkin and return it to the Park District office located in Deicke Park between 3:00-6:00 pm on Halloween Day, Oct 31. Pumpkins will be judged at 7:00 pm at the Park District Halloween Party. First, Second ii Third place prizes will be awarded in four different age groups: 3-6, 7-10, 11-13 and 14-high. Prizes will alsobe awarded to the Funniest, Scariest and Most Original pumpkins. Pumpkins and prizes are donated by "Friends of the Huntley Library". The pumpkins were purchased from Jason Grismer & Brett Berghorn who raised them for a F.F.A. project. Soup & Salad At Trinity Coming Soon...Trinity Lutheran Church's Annual Soup and Salad Luncheon with Bazaar and Bake Sale. To be held November 9th from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Church. Craft tables are available at no charge. If interested please call 669-5817 to reserve a table. Vision, Hearing Cholesterol Testing On Thursday, October 12, from 3-7 p.m. the McHenry County Health Department will be measuring blood pressure and total cholesterol levels at their office in Woodstock. The public is invited and no appointment is necessary. The cost of the cholestrol test is five dollars and participants need not fast. Blood pressure screenings are free. They will also be conducting Vision and Hearing testing with a minimal charge of $1.50 each. For further information, please call the McHenry County Health Department at 338-2514.
