Homecoming spirit fills the streets of Huntley as Mike Kresal and Omar Manzanares, juniors at Huntley High School, drive through town. Is this house on fire? No, it's not burning now, but on Oct, 12-14, to celebrate Fire Prevention Week, this 2-level trailer house will "catch fire." This "smoke house" was built by the Wonder Lake Fire Department to teach children how to exit a burning building safely. The "house" is filled with simulated smoke, and a flashing red strobelight simulates the fire. The house will be appearing at the Huntley Grade School playground on Oct. 12-13 and at the Huntley Factory Shops mall on Oct. 14. Children preschool-age to 3rd grade are welcome to try to "escape" the house. Present were Commissioners Schachtner, Domagalski, and Brown. Also present were Mayor Dhamer and Administrator Nelis. APPROVALOFMINUTES Motion to approve the minutes from August 14,1995 made by Domagalski, seconded by Brown. Voice vote; all ayes^otion carried. GRW£ PROPERTY Mr. Orville BretSn'an from Town & Country Real Estate spoke on behalf of Ms. Alice Graske who desires to re-zone the property before selling. Mr. Brettman claimed the property backs up to business-zoned property on three sides; a beauty parlor is on the west side, the Harris Bank ofHuntiey is on the north side, and The Dairy Mart backs up to the property on the southwest corner. The property rezoned to B2 would increase its value. Mr. Nelis clarified that the property in question is sided on the east and south by single family properties and the property is I out of 2 lots as a buffer to other commercial-use properties. Commissioner Schachtner commented that re- zoning may set a precedent and he disfavors re-zoning the property. Commissioners Brown and Domagalski also disfavored re- zoning. Mr. Nelis indicated to Mr.Brettman the option of seeking an informal hearing with the Zoning Board. LOEB FARM ANNEXATION Mr. Richard Burton from Land Consultants Inc. was present to discuss the proposed development north of the Town & country development, with Haligus Road to the west and Algonquin Road to the north. The plan includes 223 single- family lots with access to Algonquin Road. They will be requesting a rear- yard variance of 40-' to 30'and a right-of-way variance of 60' for the interior streets. They have a letter from the Park District requesting a cash donation. Commissioner Schachtner questioned the number of lots requiring the rear-yard variance and the location of access to the park in the Town & Cotmtiy development. Mr. Burton responded they would be asking for the rear-yard variance on all lots and the access to the park is actually west of the property itself Mr. Nelis commented that Town & Country had requested side-yard variances as well as rear-yard variances and that there is no visual impact of rear-yard variances alone. Motion to recommend the Loeb Farm Development to the Zoning Board for Approval made by Commissioner Brown, seconded by Commissioner Schachtner. Roll call vote: Commissioners Schachtner, Domagalski, Brown, and Chairman Rohlwing; all ayes. Motion carried. HALAT ANNEXATION & ZONING RalphHardyfi-om Ariano, Anderson, Bazos, Hardy & Castillo was present to request the annexation and re-zoning of the property northeast of the future Haligus and Algonquin Roads. They are requesting B2 zoning for the south 500' .X 320' portion and R4 zoning for the portion 2140' x 320' that would be compatible to Cambridge Homes' zoning request. Tom Halat, 10214 Algonquin Road, was also present petitioning for the annexation and re-zoning from AI. He indicated his current plans are to continue farming, however his request would help protect the future development of Huntley. Mayor Dhamer indicated the ComEd plans for overhead or buried lines is still to be determined. Motion to recommend the request to the Zoning Board for Approval made by Commissioner Brown, seconded by Schachtner. Voice vote: all, ayes. Motion carried. WEISS FARM DEVELOPMENT Christopher Miller from Rolf C.
