The Huntley Chamber of Commerce is proud to present the five candidates who will compete in the 1996 Miss Huntley Scholarship Pageant on Sunday, June 9, at 6:30pm at the Huntley Factory Shops.

Isabel   Nunez
Isabel Nunez, I7-years-old, is a senior at Huntley High School. Isabel is the daughter of Emelda Moerke, has lived in Huntley for 11 years and will be sponsored by the First National Bank of Marengo, Huntley banking Center.
Sarah  Ryan
Sarah Ryan, 17-years-old, is a junior at Marian Central Catholic High School. Sarah is the daughter of John and Connie Ryan, has lived in Huntley all of her life and will be sponsored by Huntley Chiropractic & Mas.sage Therapy.
Jennifer  Schroeder
Jennifer Schroeder, 18-years-old, is a Hunllcy High School graduate, presently attending MCC studying computer graphics and design. Jennifer is the daughter of Ron and Karen Schroeder, has lived in Huntley for 8 years, and will be sponsored by TJH Contracting, Inc.
Jennifer Stanton
Jennifer Stanton, 17-years-old, is a .senior at Huntley High School. Jennifer is the daughter of Dawn Stanton, has lived in Huntley for 17 years and will be sponsored by the Harris Bank Huntley.
Amber Wasberg
Amber Wasberg, 16-years-old, is a sophomore at Marian Central Catholic High School. Amber is the daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Wasberg, has lived in Huntley for 9 months and will be sponsored by The Elgin Organization.
Huntley Library Board Selects New Officers
The library trustees of the Huntley Area Public Library District have selected new officers for the coming year. Janice I. Schadt will serve as president of the library board and out-going president, Richard Drendel, will assume the post of vice-president.
Jle   Runge   will   serve   an tional term as treasurer, and garet Huber Hackworthy will continue as library board secretary.
The library trustees will be addressing a number of issues in the coming year, most significantly plans for library expansion and long range planning. In the short term, the library trustees are discussing plans for installation of public access internet, as well as offering the public access to the library's computer catalog.
The library board meets on the second Thursday of the month at 7pm. The public is encouraged to attend meetings of the library board.
Celebrate Your Pets - Drawing Contest
To celebrate National Pet Week (May 5-11), Dr. Jane Stimac of the Huntley Veterinary Hospital is sponsoring "Celebrate Your Pets - Drawing Contest". The contest is open to children in grades K-5, with two divisions for judging, K- 2 and 3-5. Grand prize in each division is an 8x10 portrait wilh your pet by H. Walter Portraits. Two runners-up in each division receive a choice of grooming at
Shampooch & Kitty II or a Circle of Love t-shirt. All participants will receive a participation award.
Judging will be done by local artists. Entry deadline is May 1. Winners will be announced in The Huntley Farmside.

Huntley Lioness Plan Caramel Pop Day

Lionesses in Huntley will be out for contributions on Friday, May 3. It's all part of Lioness Caramel Pop Day and contributions will be accepted. In return. Lionesses will distribute caramel suckers.
Caramel Pop Day, is a basic part of Lioness programs in support of the blind and visually impaired. Club members, augmented by volunteers, be will working in communities across
the slate. Caramel Pop Day is part of a statewide fundraising program coordinated by the Lions of Ilhnois Foundation of Hillside.
"It's almost impossible for sighted and hearing persons to fully comprehend what it's like to be blind or deaf, but they can help sight and hearing impaired through their support of Caramel Pop Day," said Mary Lesch, Hunllcy Caramel Day Chairperson.
Clean Sweep Huntley Triumphs Over Trash!_
Forty-six residents of Huntley hit the streets Saturday to help make this community a better place to live. They were all part of the "Clean Sweep Huntley" project, an annual event sponsored by the Huntley Chamber of Commerce.
Even though the temperature was in the 40's, wind gusts were over 30 miles per hour, and a light rain dampened their efforts, in about an hour and half they had collected 136 bags of roadside tfash and debris.
"We are extremely grateful to all our volunteers for their work, especially since they had lo brave the elements to do so!" remarked Dr. William Awe, Clean Sweep chairman. "Huntiians care about their village and we won't let visitors or neighbors trash it. A lot of our volunteers are children, it is wonderful to see them get involved with such a noble cause. We hope our efforts go beyond
just spring cleaning but teach our kids respect and responsibility for the environment."
The chamber sponsors this project in co-operation with the Huntley Park District and the Village of Huntley Public Works Department. This third annual event is a chance for various organizations to work together on a common project lo build a sense of community.
"The Scouts are always a large part of our success, as are their families. You can always count on the mayor and a few village officials working by your side, too," reports Dr. Awe. "This is a great community project."
