Huntley receives new area code
On Jan. 20, 1996, Huntley, along with portions of McHenry, Lake, Kane and Cook counties, will receive a new telephone area code.
The new area code is 847. Residents of Huntley will need to dial the new code when calling outside the area.
Other areas that changes to the 847 area code include Algonquin, Barringon, Carpentersville, Dundee, Elgin, Hampshire, and Lake in the Hills.
While the new area code takes effect on Sat., the telephone company is allowing a grace period until April 19,1996. Calls to the 847 area code will still be completed if callersfail to
dial the new area code.
After April 19, callers who dial the old 708 area code will hear a recorded message informing them of the new area code.
The cost of dialing numbers that remain in the 708 area code will not change for those who have changed to the 847 code.
In August, the 708 area code will be divided again, withcommimities such as Aurora, Bartlett, Carol Stream, Geneva, St. Charles and West Chicago receiving a 630 area code.
Those with questions about the area code changes can call 1(800)988- 5888.
