'^Westland Golf celebrates grand opening

Last Saturday and Sunday marked the grand opening celebration of Westland Golf, a driving range/ mini golf course located in Huntley on Algonquin Road.
"Westland is a great place to bring the family and kids. There's something for everyone to do here," said Ed Ford, owner.
Mayor Jim Dhamer cut a ribbon on the clubhouse doors at noon to officially open Westland Golf
Grand opening events included
an individual and family mini golf tournament, a "within the circle" driving range contest and a 13" color television giveaway. Free hot dogs and refreshments were served throughout the day.
Many patrons took advantage of the contests and tried out the mini golf course, free of charge.
The mini golf course has an old west flair, featuring some obstacles, water hazards and sand traps, surrounded by beds and walkways lined with colorful flowers.
Westland Golfs driving range
features 46 individual practice tees, and a teaching pro is on hand for optional lessons and tips. Westland alsofeaturesa 1,300 sq. foot clubhouse with a snack bar and game room.
Westland tournament winners included Dee Roseno and Kevin Middleditch, who tied with a score of 20 in the Individual Aduh division; David Ervin, Tim Feeley and Mathew Burke tied for second place in that division with scores of 22. In the child event, John Weidl won with a score of 17. Jason Alshanski came in second with 18, and Daniel Weidl
placed third with 22. Inthe adult family event, Mike Balon and Erin Smith tied for first with a score of 20. Linda Nelson came in second with a score of 22. In the child's family event, Jason Haul, Michelle Hupser and and Jason Caldwell tied witha score of 22
Prizes in the categories ranged from free buckets of balls to free mini golf games.
Niko Kanakaris won the television.

Huntley EMT/Paramedic receives service award

Huntley EMT/paramedic Al Wiesneth received the "George Van De Voorde Leadership &Outstanding Service" award at a special recognition dinner Friday, May 26, at the Holiday Inn in Crystal Lake.
The plaque is awarded annually ' 'In honor of exceptional contribution to Emergency Medical Service in the Greater Elgin area mobile intensive care program."
Wiesneth has lived in Huntley since 1974 and been a certified paramedicfor 12years. Healso serves Huntley as fire prevention inspector.
The award   is presented by
Sherman Hospital ofElgin. Sherman is the resource hospital for the Greater Elgin area. Seventeen departments submit names for consideration by the committee, which makes the final decision.
Huntley Fire District is the only depart-ment in the area with two recipients of this presti- g i 0 u s award. Fire Chief Dave
Veath received the award in 19^5. Lt. John Hutsler, Jr. of the Himtley Fire Department, post-humous received an honorary award, accepted by his wife, Connie Hutsler.
Huntley firemen Dave Eeg and Russ Wilson were recognized for their five years in paramedic service.
1995 HHS Seniors graduate

, ^riday evening. May 26. 1995, vsJfe memorable evening for 55 Huntley High School students. The commencement ceremony for the graduating seniors took place that night in the high school gym.
Valedictorian Andrea Jaroch and salutatorian Tracy Drufke both had moving speeches that evening., and a wards and scholarships were handed out to many students.
The 54 graduates were also excited that theirfellowsenior,Kristin Laramie, who is battling with leukemia, was able to attend the graduation ceremony with them that
evening.
We wish each and every one of the graduates much happiness, good luck and success in whatever they might endeavor. Congratulations lo all!
