Huntley High class of 1960 celebrates 40 years
Just a little math would make it no surprise the students of Huntley High School, class of 1960 would be holding a 40th reunion this year. But the year 2000 is also the 40th anniversary year of "The Huntley Farmside," and a link to the Class of 1J>60 goes way back to the beginning. A photo of Huntley High School theater students performing "The Man Who Came to Diimer" graced the very first front page of the fledg¬ ling Farmside. So it just makes sense for the paper to keep track of these kids.
It wasn't hard to find many them on the night of Aug. 19. They were at Floyd's Restaurant in Carpentersviile and they were very busy, reminiscing.
"We hold a reunion every five years," said Nancy Linnenkohl Kane of Huntley, who shared organizational duties this year with classmates Darlene Elvert Schuman of Gilberts and Robert Kunde of Huntley "There were 27 in our graduating class, and we try to keep up with everyone. That's easier if we do it every five years."
"This year I sent out 39 invitations," Schuman s^, "because we also send invitations to those students who start¬ ed with us but didn't graduate with us because they moved away, and those who joined us late. This year 24 of the 39 attended, with 35 people in atten¬ dance including some spouses. That's pretty good."
Those attending included: Barbara Ackman Walsh, Larry Barton, Charles Berndt, Jerome Chamness, James Conley, Joyce Drendl Allen, Darlene Elvert Schuman, Beverly Heine Eisenmenger, Robert Kunde, Nancy Linnenkohl Kane, Elaine Miller Christiansen, Ronald Montanye, Annette Priegnitz Kaslning, Marcia Rubash Westman, Dale Schwab, Donald Van Abbema, Gloria Barchart Harmon, Annette Maushak
Klecknerand Billy Petersen.
Graduates came from Florida, Wisconsin, Huntley, Crystal Lake, Gilberts, Wisconsin, Belvidere, McHenry, Union, Fox River Grove, Geneva and Algonquin. While many of the 1960 students have moved away from Huntley, many have since returned to their roots in Huntley or the Huntley area.
The evening began with a cocktail hour. The graduates reconnected while taking in displays of the old silver and blue memorabilia brought by their peers. Bob Kunde gave a welcoming speech and the class held a moment of silence for the three members of their class who have passed away. Senior class president Donald Van Abbema gave a toast and then it was on to din¬ ner with a choice of prime rib, filet or shrimp as entree.
