SERVING THE PEOPLE OF HU^^^LEY SINCE 1960 Clie Wuntlep fnxm^iht USPS 580-360 THURSDAY MARCH 13, 1997 - VOLUME 36, NUMBER 48 - HUNTLEY, ILLINOIS ., TWENTY-FIVE CENTS Huntley Scouts Collect for Grafton Township Food Pantry Parenting Workshop March 15th Cub Scout Pack #167 and Boy Scout Troop #167 collected food items Saturday, March 1, which they donated to the Grafton Township Food Pantry. on By Trudy Jurs On March 1st, Cub Scout Pack #167 and Boy Scout Troop #167 had a food drive and delivered the items collected to the Grafton Township Food pantry. The Scout members collected food "Sister Act" at Congregational Church Up-beat music and motion will be part of the Sunday 9am service at First Congregational Church of Huntley on March 16. Fifteen members of the Algonquin Congregational Church choir will present a couple numbers from their interpretation of "Sister Act," the movie that celebrated tempo and action in church music. Complete with costuming, the Sister Act group will present action and music in the tradition of the movie. The public is invited to come and share in this , mirsicalffeat." ¦ — - from their neighborhoods and received thousands of items. Grafton Township Food Pantry would like to thank everyone in the community who donated to the food drive. Also, a big thank you Sixth Graders Seek Help for Recycle Drive The sixth graders from Huntley Middle School need your help. The sixth grade class is planning an Aluminum Can Recycling Drive as a fundraiser. The drive will run for three Saturdays, March 29, April 5 and April 19. Please bring your crushed cans to the drop off site at the recycling shed located at the east side of Huntley High School. Proceeds will be used for the sixth grader's trip to Atwood Outdoor Education Center. Help the sixth grade, and »help the environment, too. to the Scouts and the Leaders for all their time and effort. Hours for the food pantry are Monday, Thursday and Friday, 9am-2pm. Women's Group Hosts Annual Spring Sale Wonderful treasures may be found at the First Congregational chiu'ch Women's Circle rummage sale in April. The annual sale will take place in the church's Fellowship Hall on April 4 & 5 from Sam to 5pm on Friday and Sam to 12pm on^ Saturday. Saturday will once again, feature the '$2.00 bags". the First Congregational Church of Huntley is located at the comer of Main and Church Streets. By Bob Henry Over the years, literally millions of words have been spoken as family members attempt to communicate to each other. How can these words be spoken and heard more effectively? Come and find out at Trinity Lutheran Church on March 15th as we welcome Jim Holbrook, Director of Counseling for Lutheran Child and Family Services. The workshop is FREE to the community. It will be held from 10:00-11:30am in Trinity's basement. Breakfast foods and child care will be provided. Huntley Three Qualify for State Meet By Lorraine Smith Travers Smith, Simone Leger and Alison Smith qualified for State competition at the District YMCA swim meet March 1 & 2. Winter Swim season is coming to an end soon. Simone Leger, Alison Smith and Travers Smith qualified for State competition at the District YMCA meet held on March 1 & 2 in DeKalb. These three swimmers are on the Kiswaukee-DeKalb team under the direction of Coach Brian Bickner. They qualified in the following Back, 4th place; Medley Relay, 1st place. Travers: 50 Back, 3rd place; 50 Free, 2nd place; Medley Relay, 1st place; Free Relay, 1st place. Alison: Medley Relay, 1st place. The YMCA State meet will take place in Aurora at Waubonsie High School on March 15 & 16. Congratulations and good luck! Items can be dropped off anytime
