Citizen Committee Forms to Assist with April 1st Library Referendum

Trustees of the Huntley Library are asking voters to approve a bond issue at the April 1st consolidated election to provide for construction of a new library facility on Ruth Road in Huntley.
To assist the trustees and to help ensure a successful outcome for the April 1st referendum, a committee of Huntley and Lake in the Hills residents has formed and will meet for the first time at Trinity Lutheran Church on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 7pm. The meeting is open to all individuals who are interested in obtaining information about the referendum and who would like to help.
Referendum consultant Steve Larson will be on hand at the meeting to provide an overview of the issues involved in the referendum. Representatives from the library board will be available
as well to answer questions and to explain the various activities in which the Citizens Committee might engage.
Groups will be designated to assist with mailings, put up yard signs, make telephone calls to encourage voter turnout, and to walk the neighborhoods in the newer subdivisions in Lake in the Hills.
Trustees Richard Drendel, Seth Peterson and Wade Runge have been appointed by the Library Board to coordinate referendum activities and to give guidance to the Citizens Committee.

Huntley Students' Art Work Chosen
Regional Scholastic Arts Competition

Five Junior High and five High School students from Huntley District 158's Art programs have had 12 art works selected for the North Suburban Illinois Regional Scholastic Art Contest held at Randhurst Mall. These pieces were on display from Feb. 9 through the 17th, with the opening reception for students and their families on Sunday, Feb. 9. The National Scholastic Arts Competition is the largest of its kind in the nation.
The competition included over 3,000 pieces from over 50 Lake, Cook and McHenry County schools. From the 3,000 about 500 were chosen for the show and a small minority were awarded silver or gold keys.
Of the 14 pieces of art work entered by the Jr. High, 6 were chosen by the judges to "place" in the show. This is a very high ratio for an extremely tough competition.    Placing    were
drawings by Kristin Bien, Jason Kalsow, Michelle Lillibridge and Karissa Sartell; and watercolors by Dusty Isenhart and Michelle Lillibridge (silver key). This is a very great honor.
Of the 31 pieces of art work entered by Huntley High School, 6 were also chosen to "place". Amanda Levinson's drawing received a gold key and will proceed to New York for national competition. Others placing were Mike McCoy, Stephanie Musgrave, Misty Welch (drawing and painting) and Kyle Williams.
Congratulations to all the students who entered this prestigious competition and the art students worked very hard on their drawings, paintings, ceramics, printmaking and more.
On Thursday, Feb. 13, those placing and advanced art classes will travel to Randhurst to view the Scholastic Arts^ Exhibition.., .

On Wednesday, Feb. 5, Jackie Dalleska and Lisa Aschenbrenner, signed letters of intent for volleyball college scholarships. Jackie will play for the Clemson University Tigers. Lisa will play for University of Minnesota's Golden Gophers.
Jackie and Lisa were co-captains of the Huntley High School varsity volleyball team which won third place in the state for the 1996 season, second in 1995 and fourth in 1994. In their final high school season, the team held an 18-1 record. In the off-season, Jackie, Lisa and several other team members, are members of the Sports Performance Team.
Jackie is the daughter of John and Kim Dalleska of Huntley/ Union. She's a three varsity letter middle hitter for the Ladyskins. In the 1996 season she was named Player of the Year in both the

Huntley Post Office Customer Appreciation Day
The Huntley Post Office invites all postal customers to stop by and enjoy coffee, juice and donuts on Friday, Feb. 14. The post office is located at 11013 Woodstock St. in downtown Huntley.
Donkey Ball Comes to Huntley
On February 18th the Huntley Music Department and the Hundey FFA will play a game of Donkey Ball against the Marengo band and FFA.

Spring Sports Registration at Huntley Park Dist
The Huntley Park District is holding Spring Sign-up for soccer, baseball, softball, and t-ball. Over the last few years, these programs have filled up quickly. The park office will be open extended hours this Saturday, February 15 to accommodate spring registration. Hours will be 12:30 to 3 pm.
According to the park office, anyone signing up during the 2 week registration period will receive 2 bonuses. 1. A guaranteed spot in the program, and 2. $5 off the registration fee.
The Park District office is located in Deicke Center on Route 47 in Huntley.
