Hartley, Superintendent School District 158 is planning to build a new elementary school in response to rapidly growing enrollment. Tentative plans call for a referendum next November to fund part of the project. Help is needed with the information campaign. To organize the process, a meeting has been scheduled for 7 pm, Tuesday evening, April 22, in the High School Cafeteria. Interested people are encouraged to attend. Details of the proposed project will be presented and discussed. Enrollment is growing at nearly twenty percent per year and the rate of growth is accelerating, a significant building project is expected every two to four years. Each project will probably require a referendum. Due to the rapid growth, failure of a referendum could result in severe hardships. Projections indicate enrollment will increase by between 300 and 400 students per year for the next few years. It is critical that all proposals be approved the first try. We cannot afford delays. Therefore, it is critical that the project selected be palatable to the voters and that the voters be well informed. Please attend the meeting on April 22nd and help. ., CELEBRATE YOUR HOMELAND! EARTH DAY CLEAN SWEEP HUNTLEY By Dr. William Awe Its time to spruce up our town with the help of the Chamber of Commerce and your neighbors on Earth Day '97, Saturday April 19th. Here are a few tips to make this a productive and safe day! We've modified our plan to make participation easier. This is a "Do-it-yourself type of activity. If you would like, you can take your group, family, or team right to an area and begin picking up roadside trash. Leave your collected bags tied by the road and our Clean Sweep Team will haul them away. Quit whenever you feel that you are finished for the day. Clean Sweep Headquarters will again be at the Deicke Park Recreation building. You can meet us there as early as 7am for Juice, Coffee, and Donuts but we will leave sharply at Sam. Garbage bags will be available also or you can bring your own. Last pick-up will be at 11am. Please dress appropriately for the day. We suggest gloves, hats and work boots as well as bright colors like blaze orange to help passing cars see you. Only collect roadside trash, no branches or yard waste, and please don't lift anything heavy. Its important to stretch and warm your muscles before the event to help prevent any injuries. The Huntley Chamber of Commerce would like to thank the following Businesses for their support or donations to make our day a success: Marengo Disposal, Huntley Park District, Dean's Food, Country Doughnuts, Huntley Chiropractic & Massage Therapy.
