Auxiliary Donates to Huntley School Library
From left: Elementary Principal Kelly Baird, Librarian Eileen Zywicial, Auxilary Education Chairman May Chesak and High School Principal Gene Goeglein.
By Tracey Schwartz
During American Education Week, Oct. 11-17, Huntley's American Legion Auxiliary donated five checks totaling $385, to the Huntley School Library.
Auxiliary Education Chairman May Chesak said that traditionally the Auxiliary donates three checks of $75 each, designated to high school, junior high and elementary. However, says Chesak, four years ago while
visiting the Library's Learning Center she noticed there were no pictures on the walls and recommended to the Auxilary to donate a fourth check for pictures.
The last check donated is designated to purchase five books dedicated to five Gold Star Auxiliary Members, for the Library. A Gold Star member is an Auxiliary member who has lost a relative in military service.
Accepting the donations were High School Principal Gene Goeglein, Junior High Principal Kelly Baird and K-12 Librarian Eileen Zywiciel. Zywiciel says the three checks of $75 will be used to purchstse books focusing on social studies and American history.
In addition, during American Education Week, the Auxilary gave a bushel of apples to each Huntley school for its teachers.
Sherman Hospital Love Light Tree
The Sherman Hospital Auxiliary is currently conducting its annual fund raising event. The Christmas Love Light Tree, to help fund its Lifeline project.
For each donation of $5 or more a light will be placed on the Love Light Tree in honor or memory of someone special. A contribution of $100 or more helps light the star atop the tree. Monies
raised will be used to purchase additional lifeline units and equipment enabling ill, elderly or physically challenged people to live indepejidently. Sherman Lifeline is now in more than 300 homes in 20 communities, as far north as Woodstock and as far east as Elk Grove Village.
Contributors and the public are invited to attend the
lighting of the tree and enjoy Christmas music and refreshments, Monday Nov. 26 at 7pm at Sherman Hospital or Tues., Nov. 27 at 7pm at The Ambutal of Crystal Lake.
For information about Lifeline or how to make a contribution to the Love Light Tree, call Lifeline Coordinator at. 708-742-9800, ext. 8044, Sam to 3:30pm Monday through Friday.
Keep The Wreath Red In 1990
The Christmas season is here and for the eighth year the Huntley Fire Protection District asks Huntley to Keep the Wreath Red! This is part of a state wide campaign to alert residents concerning fires caused by holiday decorations.
A large wreath is displayed on the front window of Station #1 on Coral Street. The wreath starts with its bright red lights constantly lit. If there is a fire in the district caused directly by holiday decorations a bulb on the. wreath is replaced with a white one.
Huntley has kept the wreath red every year since we began the program seven years ago. Our firefighters request all residents to please continue to be fire safety minded again this year.
Make sure Christmas trees are fresh and kept away from
any type of heat. Check them often for water in the tree stand. Make sure all lights are UL tested and check all lights and cords to insure they are in good condition. Never use inside lights for outside use since they are not made to withstand the weather. Keep children and pets away from electrical cords around the Christmas tree and other lighted decorations. Be very careful when you, or others, are smoking around Christmas decorations. Gift wrapping should never be discarded in the fireplace. All dwellings should have smoke detectors; and smoke detectors and fire extinguishers make excellent gifts that say you care.
The Huntley Fire Protection District wishes all of you a happy and "Safe" holiday season. Once again, Huntley, let's "Keep The Wreath Red"!
The Huntley Farmside Office will be closed Nov. 22nd & ^ J^ 0^ Nov. 23rd.
Happy Thanksgiving To All!
