Saving is not just for adults
The First National Bank of Marengo Huntley Banking Center started a new program this school year for the fifth graders at Huntley Middle School. Fifth grade teacher, Terry Baseggio, has been instrumental in helping the bank establish this program.
Twice a month Julia Wicker, a
customer service representative from the bank, goes to the fifth grade classrooms to help students with their own bank accounts. During the bi-weekly visits students make deposits ranging from pennies to bills. Some are just socking away their extra cash, and others have specific goals, like
Super Nintendo, a car, and college.
Of course, the students need their parents approval to open the account. All a student needs to open an account is their parent's signature.

Kindergarten Registration
School District 158 will be holding kindergarten registration for the 1997/98 school year from 8 am to 3 pm Monday, February 24th through Friday, February 28th at the elementary school.
In order to be eligible for kindergarten next fall, children must be 5 years old by September 1, 1997. A county birth certificate is required for kindergarten registration.     At
registration, parents will receive the medical forms needed to be completed by the family doctor before the student may enter kindergarten, plus other important information.

Pre-school Screening
The customary annual preschool screening for children who may be eligible for the Pre-Kindergarten "Children at Risk" program will take place on April 3rd and 4th. It's Coming! Huntley Home & Business Expo February 22 & 23
The annual Huntley Chamber of Commerce Home and Business Expo has been scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, February 22 and 23. It will be held in Delaney Gymnasium in the Huntley High School.
In addition to 80 plus exhibits, this year's Expo will feature "Exotic Zoo to You" Animal Shows (11:30 am and 1pm), Caricatures & Face Pointing, live coverage by 3 radio stations, and plenty of fabulous food.
Prize drawings will be held throughout the event. Grand Prizes include a week end get-a¬ way for up to 4 people in a villa the the Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva and a $500 power shopping spree at the Huntley Factory Shops. Other prizes include overnight accommodations for two at the Holiday Inn Elgin, dinner for two at the Water Tower Grill, a boys or girls bike, and an official NFL football.
Donkey Ball Comes to Huntley
On February 18th the Huntley Music Department and the Huntley FFA will play a game of Donkey Ball against the Marengo band and FFA.
Plan to stop by and see our students ride live donkeys and play basketball. The games begin at 7pm.
All proceeds will go the clubs that are sponsoring the event.
Town Picnic Planning Meeting

The date is set for the Huntley Town Picnic - Sunday, June 22 - but there's a lot of work to be draie!
We need everyone to set aside a few hours to help us make this the best picnic ever!
Local business owners are invited to get in on the planning and get your business some recognition!
Villages Agree on Boundaries
The Village Board of Huntley and the Village Board of Lake in the Hills reached agreement on a long standing border dispute in a joint meeting held last Wednesday evening, January 29.
Officials from the villages agreed that Lake in the Hills can annex the proposed 240 acre site, a portion of which will be turned over to the School Board for a proposed school.
They further agreed that Huntley has sole annexation rights to two other contiguous properties.
A 40 foot right of way was designated along the west edge to allow for future road construction.
The villages also agreed to settle which community will supply water and sewer utilities to the school site. If Lake in the Hills provides sewer utilities, Huntley agreed to provided water to the school property.
Failure to agree on these issues could have delayed the School Board time schedule.
According to Huntley Village President Jim Dhamer, the potential of sharing facilities with an adjacent park has also been discussed. "After a master plan is developed, there may be room on the school site for some park facilities."
Spring Sports Registration at Huntley Park Dist
The Huntley Park District this week announced Spring Sign-up for soccer, baseball, softball, and t-ball. Over the last few years, these programs have filled up quickly.
According to the park office, anyone signing up during the 2 week registration period will receive 2 bonuses. I. A guaranteed spot in the program, and 2. $5 off the registration fee.
The park office will be open extended hours on Saturday, February 8 and Saturday, February 15 to accommodate spring registration. Hours for those two Saturdays will be 12:30 to 3 pm.
The Park District office is located in Deicke Center on Route 47 in Huntley.
