B & B Service Closing
"i
As many of you may already know, B & B Service will be going out of business as of March 31, 1990. They thank everyone for their business and friendship over the last six years.
Unfortunately, the service station will cease to exist as it has been for many years in Huntley and for this Craig and Nancy are sorry, knowing it will inconvenience many people. However, they felt that it was a decision necessary for them to make.
Huntley is their home, and they will remain active members of this community, but B & B Service will be a part of history. They are looking forward to the future, whatever it may hold for them, and also for Huntley*s future, which will grow and be better able to serve your needs.
Craig & Nancy Dvorak wish to say thanks to all and Good-Bye.
Lioness Meeting
The Huntley Lioness met at the Legion Hall on Wednesday, March 21, for their regular monthly meeting. The slate of officers was presented for the upcoming year beginning July 1. Officers will be: President, Fran Borhart; Vice President, Rosalie Swanson; Secretary, Karen Kohley; Treasurer, Olive Staadt; Tail Twister, Dorothy Schaller; Directors, Arlene Mattingly, Gloria Evert and Robin Spiniolas.
Plans for the annual scholarships were discussed. Two scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors and two will be awarded to students entering their junior year in college.
A Scotch Double Bowling Tournament and Dinner will be held April 28, at the Huntley Bowl-Hi. Those interested in participating should contact
Robin Spiniolas by April 25.
The new pins, which commemorate 10 years of service to the conununity, have arrived. The Huntley Lioness will now be proudly sporting yet another pin on their vests.
Our latest project is collecting the UPC bar codes from Scott products. Five cents for each UPC collected will be contributed by Scott to the Ronald McDonald houses. A Ronald McDonald house, where parents & family stay at a very reasonable rate while the child is in the hospital or awaiting out patient services, is located near many major children's hospitals, including Chicago. These UPC bar codes may be dropped off at the Legion any Monday evening during Bingo or given to any Lioness.
Results Of Blood Bank Drive
Twenty-nine units of blood were given by donOrs at the Blood Bank Drive on Wednesday, March 21, at the Congregational Church Social Hall. There were 2 deferrals. Attendance was small due to the recent Jaycees Blood Drive and also the one held at the high school. Heartland Blood Centers were very grateful for the many units of blood obtained from these three Blood Drives.
Huntley Blood Drive Chairman, May Chesak, is very grateful to all donors and hopes to see many donors again at our next Blood Drive in August. Thank you one and all.
Camp New Hope Award
The Illinois Jaycees presented the Huntley Area Jaycees with a Camp New Hope Award of Appreciation a.t the Fox Valley Winter Regional.
Huntley received the award for providing $1,200 to send handicapped children to Camp New Hope this summer.
The chapter contacted the SEDOM Center in Woodstock for the names of eligible children from the Huntley area. Since there were 3 candidates this year, the chapter chose to sponsor each of them.
The Illinois Jaycees and Camp New Hope, which is located in Mattoon, Illinois, have cooperated since 1977 to provide a nationally recog¬ nized residential camping program for children and adults with developmental disabilities.
A week at the camp offers handicapped people an oppor¬ tunity to develop self- confidence, mature physically, emotionally, and mentally; and to achieve the success and satisfaction that only comes from a caring camp environment.
