Apple-picking time
Delays may back up road project

Delays were expected this fall at the intersection of Route 47 and Main Street.
But backups in traffic are not causing local businesses and village officials the most concern. Delays in construc¬ tion work may cause the project to spill over into the spring.
As utility work continues slowly at the downtown inter¬ section, cool temperatures the past few days are reminding everyone that winter weather is right aroimd the comer. And when it snows and free¬ zes, construction must stop.
"It's gotten delayed so much that we might not get it done," said Village President James Dhamer, adding that
construction would then have to begin again about May 1.
Utility work was scheduled to be complete by the end of August, Dhamer said. But in¬ itial delays by Ameritech and subsequent delays by Nicor and Commonwealth Edison have put actual work and im¬ provements to the road on hold.
Dhamer said utility work likely won't be done imtil the end of this month or early in October.
Delays have been caused by everything from problems with the gas lines to utility crews not starting their work on time, the village president said.

Commissioner gets day of recognition

For 27 years, Wilmer Rohlwing dedicated part of his life to Huntley through his work on the village's Planning Commission.
On Monday, the village re¬ tumed the favor. Rohlwing's years of service brought what the longtime resident called an "unusual honor" — he had a day named in his honor.
Sept. 13, 1999, was pro¬ claimed "Wilmer Rohlwing Day by the village. Signs around the city reminded both residents and passersby, and Rohlwing's Mends and former colleagues also gathered for a specif luncheon in his honor.
"I just wanted to go out quietly, but it didn't happen
that way," said Rohlwing, who has lived in the village^ for more than 40 years.
In his nearly three decades of service, Rohlwing has seen and helped decide the fate of the village's new housing and business developments.
He also has had a front-row seat to see the changes that Huntley has gone through in the past few years as more and more developers come knocking on the village's door.
"It's become a lot more complicated," Rohlwing said. "There's so much more to it now."
Rohlwing chose to leave the Planning Commission last month due to health reasons.
