"Ocean"-ographv: Wed., Aug. 8, 11:00-1:00, 4-6 year olds can explore the wonders of the ocean without leaving Huntley. We'll do science experiments, brainstorm about fish and create an ocean mural, complete with jelly fish, crabs &. electric eels. We'll eat tuna sandwiches while listening to stories all at the Deicke Rec. Center. Fee; $5/$7.50, register by Aug. 2.
Kraftv Kids: Mondays, Aug. 6, 13 & 20, l:30-3pm. Kids from K-3rd can enjoy an afternoon of crafts. We'll make jewelry, magnets it lots of other great "creations" during 3 sessions at Deicke Rec. Center. Fee is $15/$21, register by Aug. 2.
Wisconsin State Fair Trip: Friday, Aug. 3, we travel by motor coach to enjoy the day at the Wisconsin State Fair. Price of $23/$30/$21 Sr. Cit.(over 55] includes transportation and admission to the fair. We depart Deicke Park at 8 am and return 6 pm.
Television Production: Aug. 6-9, 9-12, participants ages 12 it up learn how to use TV cameras, control room equipment and to write and direct their own TV program. Each will have a finished video cassette of their own once class is completed. Wayne Blake instructs at the Huntley Jr. Hi TV Studio. Fee is $25/$35, register Aug. 2.
Huntiey Parle's Day Camp Attends True Value Fitness Fun Day
Huntley Park District's "Camp Laugh-A-Lot" Day Camp joined over 3,200 children from 38 cities in Illinois Wednesday, July 18 at 9:30 am. They converged in Lisle, Illinois Park District to participate in the True Value Fitness Fun Day. This is the largest children's fitness event in Illinois.
The children were divided into five groups and rotated between five different
activity areas:
1. nutrition bingo/maze tag
2. 1.2 mile running event
3. relays/moonwalk
4. health expo/dance
5. aerobics/human letter game The object of the program
is three fold: to encourage children to make regular aerobic exercise a part of their lives; to provide children with a positive experience in improving their fitness levels; and to enable children to complete any Run To Fitness running event they choose to enter, at a pace that they can maintain safely and with confidence.
True Value implemented this program last year and drew 50,000 participants through¬ out Chicago. This year, the program has been expanded to include outer areas with participation expected to increase to 150,000. The True Value Run to Fitness program also included an internship program for the students of the Steinmetz Academic Centre for Wellness and Sports Science.
Jay Krauss
Huntley Village Administrator
It's a tough job. It's a new job. No one has ever done it before, so there's no pre¬ vious pattern. That's the job of City Administrator that Jay Krauss has taken on for Huntley.
Huntley has been growing in recent years and the growth is going to continue. A lot of people in Huntley felt it was time for help. The job entails taking all the facts and all the opinions and coming up with the best overall outlook for Huntley. According to Jay, everyone sees things differently and you can't always please everyone but you do your best. He really likes the growth potential here in Huntley. It's one of the reasons he took the job. Jay feels Huntley is heading in the right direction. Though it's hard to come in in the middle of a project. Jay is
bringing all his education and experience to work.
Jay Krauss grew up in Oak Lawn, II. and graduated from Oak Lawn High School. He attended Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills for two years. After that he transfered to Northern Illinois University (NIU) in DeKalb where he earned a Bachelor of Arts. When the time came, he chose to major in public adminis¬ tration over law school. Part of their program includes on the job internship training which he did in Burr Ridge. After graduation Jay went to work for Carpentersville as Administrative Assistant to the Village Manager. He was their 2nd in command for about 2 1/2 years. That's when the newly created job of Huntley Village Adminstrator captured his attention and his enthusiasm.

Jay and his accountant wife of 6 years, Suzanne, still live in Carpentersville. They spend a lot of time working on remodeling their home. Not only is he learning a lot of new things (like painting, plumbing, etc), he really enjoys it. It's not always work though. They also enjoy fishing trips and other outdoor oriented activities. Jay has recently tried deer hunting; however, Suzanne hasn't joined him in this yet. They share the house with two dog, a Springer Spaniel named Maggie and "a mutt" named Dusty.
Jay's very serious about his job. He's hard at work every day on solutions for the individual issues as they arise and on developing an overall, long-range plan. Look for our new Village Administrator and give him a warm Huntley "Welcome".
Soccer League Registration: Registration for the Fall Soccer Season is Sat., Aug. 4 & 11. League play is open for ages 6-16 (as of Sept. 1, 1990). If you've registered for Spring only it would like to play in the Fall, you need to come in to register again. Games are played on Sat., Sept. 8 - Oct. 27. Some travel is involved as we play teams from other towns in the Tri-County League. Home games are played at 01' Timer's Park. Fee is $15/$20 (if you played in the Spring—no new uniform) or $20/$25 for new registrations (includes uniforms).
