Summer Reading Program
The Friends of the Library will be sponsoring a summer reading program on Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 12th - July 12th. Accompany your child or children to the Grade School Media Center between the hours of 9:00 am and 11:30 am and they will be able to check out books, attend a children's storyhour (10 am), read, or work on reading-related projects.
On Kick-Off Day, June 12th, the children's storyhour will be at 9-10 am, featuring Dave Mayer, a professional storyteller.
If you would like to help check out books or read a story to young children, please contact Helen Ruth (669-3731) or Anne Borhart (923-4656).
Park Activities
For more information, or to register for programs, call the Huntley Park District, 669-3180. If no one is there when you call, please leave a message. Office hours are M. ic Th. 9-5; W. ic F. 9-3 and Sat. 9-12. The office is closed on Tuesday.
Miss Huntley Contestants Needed: The Miss Huntley Contest will be held at the Town Picnic on June 24. You must be between the ages of 16-21, never married ic a resident of McHenry Co. for at least 6 months. There is a "sign-up" box in the High School office, or call the Park District office.

Music Boosters Fund Raiser
The Music Boosters of the Huntley schools will soon be fund-raising by collecting "A Mile of Pennies." Sixteen pennies placed side by side cover one foot, and a mile of pennies—5280 feet—will raise $844.80. These funds will be used to buy or repair color guard uniforms and choir robes.
Collection cans will be placed in local stores and services. Students and parents are asked to gather pennies and bring them to the school on the dates of the Junior High Musical and the Spring Concert. An "odometer" will be raised near the band room to keep track of the "distance" covered.
Pennies pile up in pockets and purses, cars and cupboards. As collections continue through the summer, you will be able to put pennies to good use and to donate painlessly to our Music Department. By fall of 1990, we hope to have gone the whole mile—inch by inch—to help Huntley music put its best foot forward.

Hun|:ley School Prairie Update

The first and most crucial part of creating a prairie at Huntley School was replacing the top layer of gravel with top soil. Fifth grade students did a core test and determined that the top layer was 1 inch gravel, one inch asphalt sealcoat and then a sand-grav«l-soil mixture. Mr. Ed Collins of McHenry County Conservation District felt that removing the top 12 inches would be enough, since prairie plants like gravel.
Mr. Frank Mercuri was contacted and agreed to donate soil, but we didn't need it. Mr. Chuck Ruth suggested removing one post to allow access of large machines to do the job more efficiently. On Saturday morning, several Alliance Contractor, Inc. trucks and bulldoeers showed up at 4 A.M. to remove the gravel and asphalt. They worked all day.
On Monday morning when a group of fifth graders arrived at 7A.M. with shovels and brooms, they had very little dean up work to do. Alliance employees were rewelding the post, and the job was done.
