Theresa Koppie is a candidate for Hundey School Board District #158. Terrie is a Registered Nurse and lives on a farm on Galligan Road with her husband Chad who is a pilot and a farmer. The Koppies have 4 children, ChadJr., who attends McHenry County College; Tom, 16; Ted, 15; and Lynn, 13. Theresa and her family lived in Elgin before moving to this area 9 years ago. This last year was her first experience on the board and when asked why she chose to be a candidate again, she said she is interested in what happens to the education of all children and feels she can contribute something to the community and the schools. Her views on the proposed tax referendum were, "It is necessary if we want to get out of debt - the board cannot keep having deficit spending. While no one likes to have taxes raised, I feel it is a necessary move at this time. 1 would hope that all additional tax monies would be used for the education fund.''
Mike Grismer is a candidate for Huntley School Board District #158. Mike lives on Church Road with his wife Donna and their four boys, Michael, Mathew, Mark and Jason. All attend the Huntley ! schools. The Grismers have been area residents for 6 years and Mr. : Grismer is engaged in farming and construction work. Mike has served on the Huntley School Board one year and is seeking a full three year term now. His main interest is to make sure all children get the best education possible and he feels while helping the children he is also making a contribution to the community as a whole.
On the proposed tax referendum for the school district, it is his ! belief that the lefeieudaiu is necessary now to erase the edhing ' debt and to maintain programs that provide a good baAnced education system.
Richard Spears, candidate for the Huntley School Board, is seeking a three year term of service with District #158. Dick and his wife, Nancy, have three children in the HUntley School system, John, 13; Brian, 12; and Kathy, 9. The Spears place a high value on the quality of education for their childre. Dick was bora and raised in McHenry County and went through the Marengo Schools when it had approximately the enrollment of the present Huntley schools. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Illinois and is employed as an engineer with a electronics firm. Dick is also a licensed Real Estate Broker with a knowledge of property values, appraisals and how they relate to our taxes and the schools income. Dick has been very active in Huntley Little League program, the YMCA Indian Guides and has helped with the Cub Scout Webelos program.
In seeking a place on the board he feels he should participate in the school system his 3 children are a part of - he feels he would like to see a quality of education program in District #158 while preventing the costs of that education from going as high as some of the Chicago suburbs. On the proposed tax referendum, "Taxes have gone up significantly in the last 2 years - we also see the state multiplier going up which will raise taxes again this year by approximately 12%. The average growth in the assessment is about I 6% per year with these combined totaling 18% more for the district. 1 feel it is premature to request a referendum at this time. These numbers may not mean much to people now but when they see their. next taz bills they will see the significance."
