e Mutitlet! ^ntinsibe Your Home Town Newspaper USPS 580-360 THURSDAY, JANUARY 12,1984 VOLUME 23-NUMBER 39 SERVING THE PEOPLE OP HUNTLEY SINCE 1960 ¦25c per copy Miss Deborah Elaine Suttie formerly of Zion, III., daughter of David Suttie, Jr., Zion, III., and Kathryn Holverson of Gumee, III. were wed on January 7, 1984 at 2 o'clock p.m. at the Christian Catholic Church, Zion, III. to Quin Charles O'Brien formerly of Huntley, III., son of Quin O'Brien, Sr. of Huntley, III., and Suzanne Brown of Poway, calif. The bride wore her Mother's wedding gown, the bridesmaids wore sapphire blue dresses. All the men wore silver tuxedoes. The wedding was highlighted by a musical piece written by the bride that was played during the seating of the mothers. Mr. and Mrs. O'Brien are now residing in Waukegan, Ul. ''Oldtimers" VS Pengnin News Faculty Coming Soon With the 'Oldtiiners" vs the "Faculty" basketball game only H days away, it was reported last Sunday that the Las Vegas odds are SO to 1 for the faculty. Coach ¦'Belly" Erath, of the Oldtimers. says his team is in cx^nstant training with various forms of Elbow Bending, Stool Sitting, Rotation Bidding and CONSTANT PRAYER. It seems they are ready for anything. When last checking, it was noted that the odds were dropping drasticly, even though the faculty has brought in two "Ringers." As of this writing, we have not heard from the faculty coach, but we hope to get some kind of resume* from him soon. It is understood that the Oldtimers are taking applica¬ tions and setting up auditions for cheerleaders in the very near future. This reporter didn't quite understand how "Cheer¬ leading Outfits" could possibly look like rubber "Band Uni¬ forms." Jhoh???! Coach Erath gave a few stats on histeam-" "Curly"Ellsworth 5'H" 2?? "Rubberlegs" Reynolds weigh¬ ing in at 205, heisS'Il" •Lights Out" Albrecht at S'll" 220 Ibs. "Hot Dog" Kittel also S'll" at 220 lbs. Their only hope "Stretch" Zimmerman at 6'6" 205 Ibs. It was good 10 see a Whhe Christmas and New Year, but even the best snowmobiler could do without those sub-zero temperatures. Try as we mite we can .not get the snow to fall only on the trails and open fields. Sorry about the drive¬ ways and roads. On Jan. 15th, Region 5 is sponsoring a Radar Run. It will be held at Lake Delavan, at the Inlet Bridge at Sportsman Parte. The time is 10 to 4 p.m. Register from 9:30 on and it is Sl.OO per run and 6 for $5.00. Bring your sled up and try to Beat the Ptos. This is our first event of this kind and we hope to get a good turn out of Region 5 participants. On Jan. 22nd., the Penquins will be having Ladies Ride. The guys will take us out for a ride and then back we hope. There will be a stop at the Rutland Forrest Preserve and then back to Starrs for lunch and refreshments. I hear somebody called Randy is in charge of the food, Starrs is known fbr good food, sure hope he keeps up the tradition. Starting time for this is 12:00 from the F.S. building. The next Penquin meeting is on Jan. 17 h, 8:00 p.m. at the Legion, we hope to see a lot of members there for a change) Noll ce Government Commodities now available at Grafton Township office for those who qualify. ''Keep the Wreath Red'' A Success The Huntley Fire Protect¬ ion District would like to thank all the residents of the district for "keeping the wreath red" during the holiday season. There were no fires due to Christmas trees, decorations or lights. Even with the extremely cold weather we had over Christmas, Huntley residents used good judgement in keeping their homes and families safe. Now that the holiday season is over, please continue to think FIRE SAFETY just as you did when you kept the wreath red. THANK YOUI The Huntley Fire Protection District Reservations Still Available For Trip To Fireside ¦ ¦.- -.ii ¦ A few more reservations are still available for the trip to the Fireside Theater at Fort Atkinson on February 1st. The show is "Hawaiian Christmas", and the price includes lunch and show. Anyone in the Huntley area is invited to go, on a first come, first pay basis. Call Leona Bundgard at 669-3102 or Louise Kreutzer at 669-5657 (early evenings). Letter to Merchants Dear Merchants, The Chancel Choir of the Fimt Congregational Church is again giving its' annual Hobo Show and Dinner on Friday, March 2 & Saturday, March 3. We serve a delicious beef stew dinner, then give an hour variety show. This year we will again present three shows because of the incredible demand for tickets! We will be serving approximate^ ly 550 people. In the past, we have asked our merchants in Huntley if they would be interested in donating any small items such as pencils, key rings, balloons, etc. to make up our "Hobo Bags". Each person attending the dinner show receives one of these "bags" filled with goodies to take home. This is a wonderful way of advertising for our businesses tn Huntley, especially since a large part of our audience is from other towns. A member of the choir will be stopping by between February 1 and February 15 to pick up any donations you may have. Thank you for your contribu¬ tion. Sincerely, Chance] Choir Kris Swanson Joins Hnntley Local Scenery Improved As you Hde or walk down the streets in the Village of Huntley, you might have noticed that the scenery has improves somewhat. The friend¬ ly face of Kris Swanson smiles at you from a Black and Wliite Patrol-car. Kris is the newest member of Huntley's "Finest". She has been on the Huntley force, part time, since Decern- ber 1st. and says. "Huntley is a very interesting town." Out of High Schooi at an early age, Kris enrolled in Harper College where she received her degree and met both Rick Rossi and Paul Swanson, whom she later married. Sgt. Swanson has been on the Lake in the HUls force for seven years. They live in LTTH just two blocks from the lake, have been married ten years and have two children, Matt, 8 and Lori 7. Kris is 32 years old and enjoys her home and her children along with policework. She says she is the Room Mother, Den Leader type. In fact her den meets at 4 pm. Kris and her frunily et^y their summers and any other time they can get away, at their summer home in Tomahawk, Wis where they ate into fishing and boating and enjoying each other's oompany. Officer Swanson stated that she got into policework because she was not the tsrpe to sK in an office. She wanted something interesting, different and chall¬ enging. Out of Harper at 21, she was too young for the force and got a Job in store security, which she enjoyed for four years, then a promotion, Homemaker fbr the last eight years. Says Kris, "Now that my children are older, I thought I'd go back to work, and Paul and I have known Chief Roasi fbr 12 years, so here I am. 1 really appreciate Rick fbr giving me this chance." (Incidently, Sgt. Paul Swanson will be standing up for Chief Rossi in his forthcoming wedding.) Wee, Huntley officially wel¬ comes you Kris, and we hope you'll be happy herel 11 Booster's 50-50 Giveaway Once again, it is time for the Booster's Club 50-50 Give¬ away. This is the third consecu¬ tive year for the event. The first year, (here was but one prize, the second year, four prizes and this year there will be TWELVE prize winners; $1,000, $500, and 10 S100 prize winners. The tickets v^ll be distributed this Wednesday at the Booster's Club meeting to all parents of Huntiey Athletes and to various Volunteer Salesmen from the Booster's Club. The drawing wilt be held at the Booster's Club Annua) Valentine's Dance on February 11th.. at the Huntley American Legion. So be sure to start buying your tickets early so you have lots of chances on the twelve prizes. Those of you taking tickets to sell, please get your tickets turned in by February 1st., either sold or unsold so we can get the remaining tickets sold before deadline. TTiere are 1,000 tickets, and they MUST be sold or there will be no drawing. The proceeds from this annual fund-raiser goes to buy Athletic Equipment or other needs not covered by th< fchool budget. The Booster's Club has done many wonderftU things in the past for our school district and we hope this years Giveaway will be successful lo they can do many more.
