Buildings Readied For New Business

Two old buildings in Huntley are being renovated at the present time to house new busingsses. Tlie old State Bank of Huntley building located in the center of Maia Street will be use^ for the new Physicians Center sooa to be opened. This building was erected in 1893 for the Huntley State Bank later to become the State Bank of Huntley in 1912. The second story was removed in 1958 when William McCreede became president and served the Village of Huntley til 1977 when the financial institution moved to its new location in 1977 to Route 47 and Algonquin Rd. At one time, part of the dovm floor was used for Cook's Pharmacy and the upstairs was used as an embalming parlor in the early part ofthe century. From 1977 until the fall of 1980, DFC Transportation used the building for its office. Howard Electronics used the building for a few years.
The other building getting a face lift is located at the comer of Woodstock and Mate. This is the oldest professional building in Huntley, dating back before 1778. In recent years it has been used as a tavern, restaurant, laundramat, gift store and pharmacy.
Two businesses are closing their doors in the Village of Huntley.

Harry Purdom and his wife, Elaine, have operated the grocery on the square for the last 15 years. Psior to that time Harry's father had the store til the early 1960's. in the late 1950's there were three groceries operating on the square in Huntley. Purdom's, Farley's, which stood nert to the pharmacy on the land which is now part of Igg's Parkside Tap's Beer Garden, and the Royal Blue Store. The Royal Blue was operated by Clyde Qanton and Mas Kunke and Farley's Store by Walter Farley and Leo Dwyer. The Farmside wishes Harry and Elaine the best.
When Mr. Weltzein closes his Country Store it will mark the end of an era in this community. The Weltzein Family have been in business here fbr over 110 years. John Weltzein built the buUding which houses Harry's IGA in 1878.
Park Distriet Minutes
The regular meeting of the Huntley Park District was called to order on Wednesday, October 23, 1985 at 8 pm by President Tures. Present were Commis¬ sioners Tures, Jurs, Gumett, Olson and Mercer, Attomey Cowlin, LeRoy Wirsing and Betsey Warrington.
A motion to approve the minutes of the Septemljer 25th meeting was made by Mr. Gumett, second by Mr. Olson. All Commissioners voted aye and the motion carried.
Mrs. Mercer made a motion to accept the Treasurer's report, second by Mr. Gumett. All ayes I'and the motion carried.
The bills for the month were presented and discussed. Mr. Jurs moved to pay all bills, seconded by Mrs. Mercer. All ayes and the mption carried.
An invoice ftwrn Huntley Material Handling was brought before the lioard again for the lawn roller. Mr. Tures made a motion to pay it, second by Mr. Gumett. The motion did pass with three ayes and two nays (Jurs and Mercer).
Mr. Wirsing's report included seeding, dirt, slide and calcium chloride.
Mrs. Warrington's report in¬
cluded fall and winter programs and meetings with PDRMA, NWUPRandlApd.
A lengthy discussion followed concerning committee projects and shortage of money to complete major improvements.
Mr. Tures opened the sealed bids for the fence from Fox Valley Fence and Peerless Fence. A motion to accept the bid from Fox Valley Fence was made by Mr. Olson, seconded by Mr. Jurs. All ayes and the motion carried.
The sealed bids for dirt were opened from Baidey Constrac¬ tion and D&Z Transfer. Mrs. Mercer made a motion to accept the bid from D&Z Transfer, second by Mr. Jurs. All ayes and the motion carried.
Mrs. Mercer moved for ad¬ journment, seconded by Mr. Gumett. The meeting was ad¬ journed at 9:40 pm.
These minutes are subject to approval by the l)oard at their next regular meeting.

The Huntley Park District Trivial Pursuit League will be held on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month only. Not every Friday as previously advertised. Call the park at 669-3180 for further details.
Aluminum Can Drive To Benefit Angle
The Angie Committee has one last project to take care of before winding up their ftmd raising projects. The Aluminum Can Drive for the l)enefit of'' Angie''
The track to haul ail the cans away that you have l>een saving will be parked l>ehind the American Legion all day Friday, November Sth and the morning of Saturday, Noveml)er 9th. It will be hauled away sometime before noon on Saturday.
The committee is asking that anyone that has l>een saving cans for "Angie" to please bring them to the Legion at that time.
All proceeds will go toward Angle's medical expenses. Thank youl

The Huntley Lion's Qub will hold    their    annual    Pancake
Treats At Bank
Breakfast this Sunday, Novem¬ ber 3rd at the American Legion in Huntley. The Lions will be serving Eggs, Pancakes, sau¬ sage, juice and coffee firom 8 am til 1 pm.
Last Saturday, October 26th, the State Bank of Huntley gave Treats for HaUoween. The fare featured Homemade Apple Cider from Wilpault and Bea Brill's orchard, apples, also ftom the orchard, cookies, candy and coffee.
