The regular meeting of the Board of Education of School District #158, Huntley Consolidated Schools, Huntley, Illinois was held in the High School building on April 23, 1987 at 7:30 p.m.
The meeting was called to order by the Secretary at 7:36 p.m. Upon roll call the following members answered present: Mrs. McDonald, Mrs. Schadt, Mr. Freeberg, Mr. Bauman. Absent: Mr. Heavey, Mr. Greve, and Mr. Miller. All present joined in the pledge to the flag.
1. Mr. Freeberg moved, Mrs. McDonald 2nd to appoint Mrs. Schadt as President Pro Tem.
3 yeas-0 nays-1 pass/Motion carried.
2. Mr. Freeberg moved, Mrs. Schadt 2nd to approve the minutes of the April 9, regular meeting as written.
4 yeas-0 nays/Motion carried.
3. Mr. Freeberg moved, Mrs. Schadt 2nd to approve the minutes of the April 9 executive session as written. 4 yeas-0 nays/Motion carried. Mr. Greve entered the meeting at 7:40 p.m.
4. Mr. Bauman moved, Mrs. Schadt 2nd to accept the gifts to the school from the Raymond Cole Memorial
Foundation for the following purpose: replacing the G.S. gym scoreboard and begin construction of a greenhouse facility at the high school. 5 yeas-0 nays/Motion carried.
5. Mr. Freeberg moved, Mr. Greve 2nd to approve the submission of the TA Grant Proposal to the State of Illinois Department of Energy and Natural Resources.
5 yeas-0 nays/Motion carried.
6. Mr. Greve moved, Mr. Freeberg 2nd to allow the superintendent permission to make arrangements and to sign contracts for direct natural gas purchases.
5 yeas-0 nays/Motion carried.
7. Mr. Bauman moved, Mr. Freeberg 2nd to approve payment of monthly agenda of bills and imprest. Education
- $21,360.40; OBM- $3,606.97; Transportation - $1,243.36. 5 yeas-0 nays/Motion carried.
8. Mr. Freeberg moved, Mrs. McDonald 2nd to approve the following employment of personnel: Tami Trulock, H.S. P.E., effective maintenance; C. William Leggee, painting; Larry Rugg, grass cutting/custodial; Matt Manning, custodial. Continued on page 15
This year's Memorial Day services were damp but, this did not stop hundreds of residents from turning out to pay their respects to the veterans who never returned.
In Huntley the rain held off just long enough for the parade and cemetery services, while in other parts of the county, the rain never stopped.
This was the case outside the courthouse in Woodstock where a monument, honoring the 35 McHenry county residents who went off to Vietnam to defend their country and gave their lives, was unveiled. The unveiling ceremonies were attended by two hundred plus people of various backgrounds. Some where Viet-vets, others were family members of the "Thirty Five".

Llft-A-Thon Success

This past month the Redskins Football Players and Coach sponsored a Lift-A-Thon. The players collected pledges for so many cents a pound and then participated in a weight lifting event to raise money for needed equipment for the upcoming football season. The players lifted a combination of the bench press and the box squat.
Top Lifters are as follows:
Rich Wagner - 275 lbs. bench press, 650 box squat
Charles Murphy - 245 bench press, 550 box squat
Gavin Hasselgrin - 215 bench press, 555 box squat
Mike Leckics - 200 bench press, 555 box squat
Ron Terry - 240 bench press, 505 box squat
Ken Basel - 225 bench press, 505 box squat
Rich Bergbreiter - 200 bench press, 505 box squat

Huntley FFA Wins StatP
Roanoke The FFA State
Ornamental Horticulture Judging Contest was held May 16 at the University of Illinois. The winning team was from the Huntley FFA Chapter. Second Place went to the team from Glenbrook South FFA Chapter and in third place was the team from the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences. A total of 13 schools and 53 individuals competed in the contest.
Members of the winning team from Huntley were Monica Fettes, first place individual; Mary Halat, third place individual; Gwen Ziller - and Kris Olsen, both tied for fifth place individual; and Dave Jilek, sixth place individual.
Other top ten individuals . were Lysa Ricke, Glenbrook South, second place; Darcey Martin, Blenbrook South, fourth place; Rita Rivera, Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences, seventh place; Michelle Lewis, Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences, eighth place; and Paula Martorano, Glenbrook South, ninth place.
Huntley will represent
Illinois at the national contest held next November in conjunction with the National FFA Convention. The state contest is sponsored by the Illinois Association Vocational Agriculture Teachers.

Society
Veterans Honored at Countv History Museum
On Sunday May 81st, all McHenry County veterans will be honored by the McHenry County Historical Society at their museum in Union.
Veterans organizations from throughout the county have been asked to participate by bringing in scrapbooks, history, uniforms, and other memorabilia so that it can be set up on display for the afternoon. In addition, items from the Society's own military collection will be ' Continued on page 2 ^
