The program consisted of: Waitin' for the Robert E. Lee Raise A Ruckas - Sherry Payne, Bobbie Tessmer, Kim Eckman Hole in a Bucket - Mary Lou Hardy, Gerry Lange Three Littke f ishies - Madelyn Miller, Cris Stewart, Sara Lindsey, Robin Plane, Sherry I ELECTION BOARD RULES TO KEEP CHUCK RUTH'S NAME ON BALLOT Last Monday, March 7th, a hearing was held by the Grafton Township Board of Election at the McHenty County Courthotise. The hearing was held to determine if Charles Ruth's name will be on the Township Ballot. Some of the spectators attending were William Ruth^ LeRoy Wirsing, Vemon Kays (County Gerk), Mary Stroupe, Louise Kreutzer, Chuck Lamb, Max Bundgard and Marge Rom. The meeting was called to order by Mrs. Mildred Ruth. She introduced the Board of Elections which included Floyd Schmuck, senior auditor; Richard Enstrom, Township Clerk and herself as Supervisor. Mrs. Ruthekcused herself from the Board because she is the nominees mother. Township Gerk, Richard Enstrom was named Chainnan. The questioning of witnesses was conducted by Bernard Naurusis, attortiey for Ed Eckman; Chuck Rutii, who conducted his own questioning and Tom Schmitt, attorney who was fliling in for Township Attorney Herb Franks, who is hospitalbted. The hearing began with an opening statement by Attorney Naurusis followed by Chuck Ruth's opening address. Attorney Narusis had anticipated asking for a continuance but decided to go ahead after Mrs. Ruth stepped down and two witnesses were present. He stated that Chuck had not befen the original nominee. He said that they were not certain where the convention was held or when. Chuck reiterated that the convention was held 47 days before the election. He agreed to attorney Narusis' statemiCBt that lie did oot file a petition for the office of Supervisor and was in independent candidate. Attorney Namsis said that the conveotim did not seem to have followed the procedures in the Election Code Chapter 46 I Section 10-8 and 10-10. Leopoldine (Oily) Kuestner, of 11905 N. Main St., was called to testify. Mrs. Kuestner is a registered voter of Grafton Township and had signed Howard Ruth's petition. She had signed Charles Ruth's certification of nomination as the secretaty of the convention. She was asked about the convention by attorney Narusis and stated that it was at the Village Hall. She stated that she didn't know who had designated the place. She said that about SO people attended and was asked to give specific names. She named; Ruth Wasserstrass, Pat Hare, Millie Ruth, Chuck Rutii, Bill Rtith, Penity Tharp, Norm Brettschneider and Max Bungard. She could not remember more as the room was full of people. Mrs. Kuestner was asked if Mary Lou Hardy was piresent.-andshe said that she saw her towards the end of the meeting. Mrs. Kuestner explained that she was nominated as secretary.. She stated that all motions were voted on by a voice vote aiid there were no negative votes. She said she didn't know how many voted as there was no roll call. There had been two papers passed ainong-the petitioners. In all 38 signatures were recorded. As far as Mrs. Kuestner recalled there were not any specific rules of convention used. Mrs. Kuestner had kept Minutes of this' meeting. Oily was nominated by Dan Ziller. At this time in the hearing a copy of the registered letter lent to petitioners was shown. Each of Howard Ruth's petitkfners wm sent a registered letter; Mrs. Kuestner had received a letter and a phone call reminding her of the meeting by Mr. Schultz. Norm Brettschneider, chairman according to Mrs. Ituettaer; ahd said that only those who had signed the petition could ihstei.. Upon roll call the following answered present Mr. Brettsch¬ neider, mr. Ruth, Mrs. Livingston ^ Mr. Richmond and Mr. Stading. Mr. Zifk and Dr. Grau absent. A motion was made by Mrs. Livingston and 2nd by Mr. : Brettschneider to approve of the Vocationa] Plan as submitted. Motion carried 5 yeas Sc 0 nays. A motion was made by Mrs. ^yingston and 2nd by Mr. Bfittschneider to approve of the DatV Banks excluding the ixxiks . for a sum of S300.00. Motion carried 4. yeas and 2 nays, ' Mr.richtnood and Mr. Ruth cast¬ ing the nay votes. At 8:40 PI< Mr. Zirk made his appearance. * At 10:30 PM tho Board went into an executive session and came back out at 11:25. A motion to adjourn by Mr. Stading and 2nd by Mr. Brettsch¬ neider, meeting stood adjourned.
