I§ h f k Hutitto Jf^armsik ^ , 1851 ^ USPS 580-360 THURSDAY, MAY 3, 1990 VOLUME 30 - NUMBER 5 OFFICE PHONE 708-669-5621 Huntley's Town Picnic Plans Huntley's 5th Annual Town Picnic takes place Sunday, June 24, in Deicke Park. At the April 24th meeting the liquor commission turned down the request for a liquor permit to allow beer sales at the picnic. There will be no beer tent at the 1990 picnic but there will be a lot of fun for all! This year the town picnic committee is combining new and old events to entertain all age groups. Restaurants and organizations will again offer a variety of food and soft drinks for a "taste of Huntley" sampling. Funny Bones the Clown will be back again this year to entertain the crowds. Kids can enjoy three rides being featured this year: a giant slide, a bouncy moonwalk air bag and the trackless train ride. The Huntley Library District sponsors a story-teller who will delight all age groups with stories throughout the day. Artist's endeavors will be displayed in the Deicke Recreation Center. Twenty-two area fire departments will compete in a barrel battle, where they attempt to push a barrel across a line with the water spray from their hoses. The traditional dunk tank offers a chance to show off your pitching arm. Radio- controlled demonstrations and car races are also planned. Several musical groups of various types will perform throughout the day. A teen dance in the evening at the park recreational center features local disc jockey Mike Hoffman. Come One, Come All! Make the 1990 Huntley Town Picnic the biggest and best yet! SERVING THE PEOPLE OF HUNTLEY SINCE 1960 Huntley Junior High T.V. Studio 25c per copy New Trustee Charles Becker Charles F. Becker was appointed Tuesday, April 24, at the Village Board meeting. Village President James Dhamer appointed him to the remaining year of James Greve's term as trustee after Mr. Greve was forced out of office. Mr. Becker is a retired glazi^. He feels being retired will allow him the time to devote himself to the village. His concern for the direction the village will grow led him to submit his name as a replacement, since growth is inevitable and should be handled properly. By: Gordy Price It all started with Mr. Blake's idea for a television studio. He had tried before, but failed. But this year there is something new and exciting at Huntley Junior High. Everything seemed to come together. Now they have their own studio at school. The kids seem to love it, they get to do many great things with it. For example, they get to do reports on camera, even interviews on camera. The kids not only get to be taped, they're the ones that are doing the taping! Taping is not the only thing they g^t to do, they can also direct, design sets, and other exciting jobs. The T.V. studio (now known as WHJH) also has its own news program, the kids also get to do that. The studio also offers the video yearbook, a thirty minute tape with happenings from the '89-90' school year. The yearbook includes Royals sports, the talent show, and the faculty. The television studio does many terrific things for everyone, especially kids. Here are some comments from some of the kids at school, "It's a lot of fun, and you get to learn how to take orders and give orders", replied Chris Vorgias when I asked him what he thought of the studio. I asked Jamie Schiesher the same question and her answer was, "It's a great new thing to improve the school, and it's a good experience". Joe Pfaff s reply was, "I think it's real neat, and it's helpful to the students". So in conclusion, the studio is in fact an excellent idea, and it's great for the kids' future. Huntley School Prairie The Huntley School Prairie finally got its start Saturday, April 28, with the initial digging out of the gravel and addition of top soil. The Huntley School Prairie is located at the Huntley Elementary School between the primary and intermediate wings. Formerly, it was a gravel and seal coat area, covered with weeds and a bike rack.
