Huntley Redskins Win B.E.C. Chainplonsiiip

The Huntiey Redskins, representing the sm&U reservation of Huntley, gallopped into the land of the Coggs, Genoa-Kingston, Friday night with one goal in mind, to win a share of the Big Eight Conference championship.
The battle was fierce and bloody. Each team tried to take advantage of the other's; mistakes. But, when the smoke cleared and the final gan went off, the scoreboard showed the Huntley Redskiiis 58 and the host Coggs 55. Hsmtisy had gained a share of the 1985-86 boys basketball crown along with Genoa-Kingston,
With Huntley leading 49 - 43 and just under three minutes to go, the Coggs put forth a final serge. Going fbr a rebound under the opponents net the Coggs forced Huntley 6'6" sophomore, Eric Suiter to foul out. Brian Lavander connected on the two foul shots close the lead to within four.
Huntley' s Danny Erath was the victim of two desperation fouls by P-K, in their search to get the ball back. Erath sank both ends of his two, one in one chances. "Danny hit some key pressure free-throws down the stretch," Coach Ream said.
With under one minute left to play in the game and the score 55 - 51, the Coggs finally had a chance to cut ^e lead to within two. Genoa's Brian Elliot brought the ball up court and was ready to call out a play when he noticed the ball was missing. Huntley's Todd Ream had stripped the ball out from under Elliot's nose and was converting the theft into a six point Redskin lead, 57-51, With just 29 seconds remahiing. "Huntley was too quick and aggressive fbr us tonight, not to mention their board strength," said a dejected G-K coach Lenny Pctterson.
The Redskins had entered the contest just one game behhid the host Coggs. Coach Ream had his tribe ready and prepared for the all out battle. Armed with bow and arrow (Larry Basel and Todd Ream), two tomahawks (Eric Suiter and Larry Rugg), and an identical pair of guns (David and Danny Erath) the Redsldns were prepared for the attack.
Huntley jumped out to a quick 10 - 2 lead in the first IVt minutes, as Larry Rugg scored six points and the Redskins hauled down five offensive rebounds in that span. The Coggs didn't give up though, as they in retum outscored Huntley 15 - 6 to finish the first quarter leading 17 -16. Huntley took a 29 - 27 lead into the locker room at halftime as Todd Ream hit some clutch baskets. Ream ended the game with 15 points.
The start of the third quarter looked like a duplicate of the first as the Redskins scored the first six points, thanks to three straight David Erath baskets, to take a 35 - 27 lead. But, the G-K Coggs never gave up, nor did they ever get closer than four points. Huntley out rebounded G-K 34 - 26. Ijirry Rugg finished the game with 11 points, Danny Erath 7, Larry Basel and David Erath 6 apiece. G-K was led by Marcus Johnson's 16 points.
Huntley's next stop is on their own reservation in the Oass A Regionals. Good Luck men!!
Huntley Wins Opening Game
The Huntley Redskins hosting the first pairings of the Gass A Regionals were opposed in the first round by North Boone.
The Redskins, seeded second in the toumament, withstood e first half stsle tactic by North Boone, too coast to a 64 - 37 win.
Boring, Boring, Boring was the cry of anxious Redskin fans, as they watched their team patiently stalk the Vikings, with a very aggressive ball defense. Then, like ravens, the Redskins took advantage of Viking turnovers and pulled away in the 3rd quarter, by scoring 26 points. North Boone had just nine.
With the score 9 - 7 to favor of North Boone at the end of the first quarter. The Redskins opened the game up to the second quarter by caustog the viktogs to tum the ball over 7 times and chalktog up a 23 - 14 lead by half.
Huntley was led to scoring by Todd Ream's 16 potots, 10 to the second half.
David Erath, the spark plug of the Redsktos attack, connected for 14 potots, 4 steals, and many assists.
The Viktogs, of North Boone were lead to scoring by Greg Geland's 16 potots. Qeland fouled out with 2:13 left to play.
Coach Ream cleared his bench early to the third quarter givtog every player a chance to play.
With the wto the Redsktos will play the winner of the Harvard-Marion Central game on Thursday and hope to face number one seed Marengo to the Championship game ou Friday at 7:30. Good Luck Guys!
Village Board Minutes
The regular meettog of the Huntley Board of Trastees was held on Feb. 6, 1986 at 8 pm to the village hall. Attendtog were Trustees Brown, Berlto, Zim¬ merman, Wicke, and Russ, village attomey Szura, and engmeer Schwegel. Mr. Russ questioned if the mtoutes of the last meettog were correct m regard to Mr. Herb Jackisch's appearance. He felt that the ho&td had verbally committed to acceptmg the requested zontog of the Ptoecrest property if a new zontog ordtoance had not been enacted before Mr. Jackisch's retum to the March meettog. Other board members held that the mtoutes correctly reported a commitment to act on
the requested zontog at the March meettog. Mr. Roger Borowicz requested that tiie mtoutes be corrected to toclude Pres. Dhamer's mention of three pipe culverts tovolved to the constmction of the private roadway from DFC Transporta¬ tion to the rear of Freund Equipment. Pres. Dhamer said that he did not recall making the statement but that he had no objection to its betog tocluded to the mtoutes, addtog that the vUlage has no jurisdiction to this matter as long as the culverts don't cause water to bac^ up.
