This year's parade, themed "America Works Best When We Say 'Union Yes'" will be televised on a delayed basis by Chicago's WLS-TV, Ch. 7, Saturday, September 3 at 2:30 p.m. The Huntley High School band will be joining the line of march which includes contingents from 320 unions affiliated with the Chicago Federation of Labor. More than 4 0 other high school and college bands representing five Midwest states will march along the parade route, which starts at Wacker and Dearborn and proceeds south on Dearborn to Van Buren. Other bands will include military and civil units. "The parade begina at noon, allowing as many Chicago-area working people as possible to enjoy the nearly two hours of festivities," noted Robert M. Healey, president of the Chicago Federation of Labor. Chicago's Acting Mayor Eugene Sawyer and other political notables are expected to join Healey and actress Ellen Burstyn at the Daley Plaza reviewing stand. Grand Marshal is Thomas R. Donahue, secretary-treasurer of. the A^L-CIO, and honorary Grand Marshal is Secretary of Labor Ann Dore McLaughlin. The Huntley High School band will be competing for various awards including the opportunity to perform at either the Chicago '^ears or Green Bay Packers half-time shows. Other awards include trophies and special awards for drum majors, winds, and percussion. Chicago's annual Labor Day parade started in 1895. AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY MEETING Huntley Unit #673 American Legion Auxiliary will hold their next meeting on Thursday, September 8, at 7:30 p.m. with President May Chesak presiding. The highlight of the meeting will be the reports of one week in June at Illini Girls State, Eastern State University, Charleston, by the four girls who attended: Mary Halat, Tracy Evans, Sara Matz, and JacKie Swanson. They will also show their scrapbooks. Parenta, other relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend this meeting. We hope there will be a large Membership attendance to hear these anticipated outstanding reports. During the business meeting Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation Chairman, Carol Weirich will discuss plans for the dinner and bingo for the Veterans from Elgin Mental Health Center which will be held in the Huntley Post Home on Tuesday, October 18th. She will be asking for good used, clean clothing which will be given to the Veterans. We wish you much happiness 1 VILLAGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES REGULAR MEETING The Regular Meeting of the Village Board of Trustees was held in the Board Room of the Village Hall on Thursday, August 11, 1988, and brought to order by President Dhamer at 8:00 P.M. Present were: President Dhamer, Trustees, Wicke, Greve, Hoeft and Borowicz, as well as Attorney Kukla and Village Engineer Schwegel. Also present was Chief of Police Rossi, and Building Inspector Spradlin. Trustee Brown was absent. The minutes of the previous meeting, July 14, 1988, were brought for the Trustee's approval. After discussion, Trustee Greve mada a motion, seconded by Trustee Borowicz, to approve the minutes as submitted and upon roll call, all trustees , vr*--?-? sye and the motion carried. Trustee Greve then made a motion to approve the special meeting minutes of July 21, 1988, seconded by Trustee Hoeft, and upon roll call, all trustees voted aye and the motion carried. At this point in the meeting, the President announced that the Board would commence the Public Hearing on the proposed Tax Lew. Any member of the public can address the Board at this point. A Bobbie Drafall questioned whether the tax levy will not increase her taxes. Trustee Wicke answered no. Attorney Kukla explained in detail the 53.9% stating that real estate taxes will not increase 53.9% and that the Levy is based on an estimated assessed evalution noting that the figures are not finalized until ysar end and necessary in order to receive the .250 max rate. Trustee Wicke than asked how many of the public in attendance were here for this hearing because of the Letter to the Editor in the Huntley Farmside by Trustee Borowicz. A show of hands resulted. He pointed out that there were incorrect statements in the letter: #1, tha 53.9% , increase in taxas and also the aewer treatment plant axpansa will be boma by tha Sewer/Water Operating Fund unless a bond la Continued on page 2
