Working through Library Systems, such as the North Suburban Library System, the state provides avenues and support for the formation of quality library districts. In addition, state library laws encourage and promote existing library districts to expand their boundaries. An example in McHenry County is the current effort at McHenry in which the library district is extending its boundaries to include all the area within their school district that is not already in some other library district. A recent meeting hosted in Crystal Lake attended by county librarians and library patrons indicated that there are people without library services who want such services. A strong impression emerged from this meeting indicating that areas in McHenry county not now served by a library would in the near future be served in some fashion. The area within he current boundaries of the Huntley Consolidated School District #158 is not now in a library district. This area is however surrounded by libreiries and Ubrary districts on all sides. In some cases the libraries are district libraries and in some cases it is a matter of being city libraries. The residents of Hamfuhire, Union, Marengo, Woodstock, Crystal Lake, Carpenters¬ ville, Algonquin, Dundee, and Gilberts are all on or near Huntley borders and have library services. Much of the rural area of these communities is in a library district or served by a library district. Other McHenry County communities have libraries, but are not mentioned here because they are not geographically as close to Huntley as those listed. Continued on page 8
