REDSKINS BATTLE HAMPSHIRE
AUXILIARY PRESENTS CHECKS TO SCHOOL LIBRARIES
i Last Friday night the Huntley Redskins Varsitv team played the Hampshire team in one of the best played games of the season. In spite of the Huntley loss, the Redskins gave the Hampshire team the battle of the year.
It was an unusual evening with Huntley and Hampshire Squad cars patrolling the game. Apparently some of the Hampshire students didij't like their own football team. Seems that some of the players have swelled heads and their fellow students decided to straighten them out with guns and knives no less. Several weapons of this kind were found at the Hampshire school on Friday. No incidents occurred Friday night and security was tight.
On top of that Huntley coaches, players and fans were not happy with one ofthe Hampshire players who went to the Huntley school for one week, leamed all the Huntley plays and then transferred to Hampshire.
In spite of that knowledge, Huntley still got 20 poinis off the number 1 state football team. They did even better than Genoa Kingston who only got 14 points off Hampshire.
The Color Guard with the flag and the band playing "Anchors Aweigh" lead off the game Hampshire started the play on the 35. Dave Callaghan was brought down by Adam Brunschon after a 5 yd gain. Rory Maynard made a touchdown on a 60 yard run. Hampshire lead 6-0. Art Hartman kickedf off; Tom Koppie recovered it. Zorica tackled Maynard at the 18. Gary Schultze and Bob Brannam held the Hamphire team to the 15. Art Hartmann was tackled by Jim Briscoe on the 7 while Ron Ellet went to the 4. Maynard made a touchdown. The extra point attempt failed.
Richard Forester caught the kickoff at the 50. Jim Goehl went to the 45. Zorica punted and Schaller recovered at the 8. Gary Schultz recovered a Huntley fumble at the 15. Brunschon went to the 4 while Goehl to the 3. Adam Brunschon made a touchdown making the score 12-6. The extra point failed.
Steve Doyle kicked off and Ron Ellett caught the ball and ran to the 33. Dan Zierer was brought down by Gray at the 45. Hampshire received a 5 yd. penalty for offside. Bob Follman caught a pass at the 48. Maynard was held by Jim Briscoe to the Huntley 47. Tom•^ Koppie made a 1st down. Troy Roesslein was hurt on the play. Ellett was brought down by Schultze for 1 yd.
