On July 30 & 31, the Huntley Pony League held its first annual toumament with towns such as Hampshire, Sugar Grove, Sycamore, and Maple Park along with others participating.
After taking the champion¬ ship in their division, the Huntley Lions Team took the play-offs to win their first Twilight League Trophy in 17 years.
In the July Tournament the boys took their champion team to the top again, winning still another trophy while representing Huntley and The Lions Club.
Coach, Bob Ellsworth along
with Assistant, Dick Erath did a super job with their team. Of course, they had a lot of talent to work with. We congradulate the Huntley Li¬ ons Pony League Team and hope that they have continued sticcess in the future while representing Huntley High School next year.
On August 12th., the Pony League along with the Ameri¬ can Legion Traveling Team held their annual picnic at Deicke Park. The Traveling Team also took their Champ¬ ionship. TT Coadi, Chuck Sass, awarded trophies to his team along with certificates.
Coach Ellsworth awarded
his trophies and stated that he CQUld not honestly choose a "Most Valuable Player" as each member of his teatn was "Most Valuable".
After the award ceremonies, most everyone met on the park ball diamond for a game "Boys VS The Men,, while the ladies cheere'd on their favorite players - even to the tune of "Take me out to the
Ballgame" in inning stretch, (Diane Clavey) one had a ball. Next event
the seventh led by Harry Carey. Every-
for the Pony
League will be a trip to Sox Park. A special treat for Ellsworth's Champions.
Scene From Sidewallt Day
48 fun loving people, jt^ed fn a day of golf at Marengo Ridge Golf last Sunday.
Our own Heebie started up this goofy golf outiBg a few years ago. The only require¬ ments: to sign up with a partner, so there's even men and women (whom you don't play with that day), bring your clubs, and plan on loads of fUn.
Each hole, of the nine played, had its own rules, such as; tee off with a baseball bat (3 misses, throw overhand); tee off with putter; tee off standing in wash bucket; or setting on a bar stool. The last hole was an especially good one. Putt with arms aroimd^our partner.
Everyone looked quite funny afTIll aM of the day, because afler each hole the loaing couide got a paint stripe on their faces, painted by the winning oou^, of course.
It was an hilarious day, after which the twelve foursomes retumed to the Huntley Legion,
where they feasted on hora d' oeuvres, and T-Bone steaks cooked to their own choosing (they cooked their own). Salads,
and-other goodies to go along with those. Yummyl
After dinner, prizes were given in four citagdries; Lowest score, received by Joanne Melahn and John Conley. Lowest amount of putts, Chuck Olson and Betty Libby. Oosest to the pin, (3rd. hole, approz. 152 yds.) woman, Joanne Melahn, man, Don Schwegle. Longest drive wHh baaeball bat. Woman, Jan Hanaen, man. Bill
Thurow.
Drawings for dow prizes were held by this years diairperaons. Doug and Joanne Melahn.
The Melahns along with their committee, Jim St Carol Weirich, and Dtene tt Herb Thurow, did a fine Job of potting tfals event together. We're sure h was a lot ofwork.
