SNOWMOBILERS RESCUE CRYSTAL LAKE SCHOOL CHILDREN

Last Thursday, January 26th, marked the 11th Anniversary of the big Chicago snow stern. It also marked severe blizzard conditions for McHenry County. Winds averaging 35 miles an hour made roads treacherous and impassable.
At 7 am on Thursday, it looked like a pretty good day. About 100 cars were already in the Union Special Parking Lot and winds were light. By 8 am the snow and winds has progressed to gale force. By 8:30 am a large truck (18 wheeler) was blocking Route 47 south of town. He made it out on his own but by then a van and another car

were blocking the road and a long line of drivers began compiling at the obstruction.
CBer Shelby Hill and others caiied in for help and were told that only the State could take care of the stranded motorist. About a half an hour later a State snow plow arrived at the scene and promptly left. By this time cars and trucks were backed up for blocks with no help in sight. Freund Equipment and area residents on tractors and snow blowing equipment finally dug the drivers out. All of the drivers turned around and came back to Huntley except for a milk truck which got stuck.
Meanwhile across town, an auto accident had occurred on the Huntley-Algonquin Blacktop involving 3 children. The Rescue Squad and a fire truck went to the scene. After transporting the children, the firemen found a man in the back of another car having an apparent heart attack. The Fire Dept. stayed on the Blacktop for many hours trying to assist motorist. One of the Huntley Squads which was on the way to the accident and was put out of action, action.
Back in Huntley, stranded motorist decided to follow a State snow plow to Woodstock. The snow plow got stuck on the outskirts of town and drivers returned for the rest of the day and night to Huntley.
Huntley CBers monitored their sets informing drivers of road conditions and getfing word to bosses and families of the drivers. Freund Equipment, Buck Bros, and D& Z Transfer were towing stranded vehicles in town. The Huntley Automotive Tow Truck, trying to help motorist, got stuck north of town on 47 but finally was able to manuever out ofthe drifting snow and get home.
By noon all roads in the County were impassible. Four wheel drivers tried to help but they got stuck too. Tractors and snowmobiles were the only vehciles which seemed able to manuever. In the early aftemoon, the Huntley Snowmobile Qub offered their services to the Sheriffs Department to help in locating and bringinB in stranded motorists.
Crystal Lake schools had been opened that day and in the aftemoon three school buses set out to take the children home. One

BETTY AHRENS NAMED ASST. VICE- PRES. AT STATE BANK
The Board of Directors of the state Bank of Huntley named Mrs. Betty Ahrens Assistant Vice President of the bank, announced Wayne Miller, President. He stated that Betty has been a loyal and very valuable employee for the past 13 years, and we're very proud to announce this promotion
Mrs. Ahrens attended Huntley High School and graduated from Winnsboro, Louisiana High school.
She has attended many banking meetings and seminars, including a Women In Management semi¬ nar at Elmhurst College in 1977.
Her responsibilities are center¬ ed around internal auditing, liaison officer with the bank's computer service, and personnel training. Her experience is quite varied, having worked at almost all positions ofthe business.
Mrs. Ahrens resides with her husband, LeRoy and their child¬ ren. Russell, 10; and Leigh Ann, 4: in Huntley.
VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT FEB. 4th
Who will be the Volleyball champions of Huntley? Which team will win the "Loudest Cheering Section Award"?? Who will win the Zenith portable colort TV set to be raffled??? These questions will be answered for us all on Sat., Feb. 4th when he much awaited 1st Annual Huntley Community Volleyball Tourna¬ ment will be held.
The teams are well organized now^ their cheerleaders have been working on routines and all is ready for the opening ceremon¬ ies.
This Volleyball Toumament. as well as the TV raffle, is a part of the Back Bob's Back Fund. The committee has received much support from everyone and hope the Feb. 4th evening will be an enjoyable time for all.
HOBO SHOW COMING SOON
The Chancel Choir of the First Congregational Church, under the direction of Mr. William Leggee, will present their annual Hobo Show and Dinner on Saturday, March 4.
This year the choir has chosen the theflie "Songs of the Decad¬ es" for a show that will have something to tickle your fancy whether you are 8 or 80.
