Pies Sell Like Hotcakes
students at Huntley School are finding that Baker's Square pies sell themselves. Over 1,000 pies were sold in just the first day by the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade students. Apple pie is the biggest seller so far, with chocolate silk and cherry selling second best. Cherry ia a new flavor this year, so the sales are phenomenal.
All the flavors available are pumpkin, apple and cherry for $5.25 and pecan and chocolate silk for $6.75. Pie may be ordered until October 13th from any student, or by calling the school at 312-669-5108. Delivery date is Nov, 10, just in time for Thanksgiving feasting.
Proceeds go to field trips, outdoor education and graduation activities. Help support these students in their efforts to raise funds in this only large scale sale of the yearl
Homecoming Activities This Week
Native American Specialist Visits Fifth Grade
Mrs. Joan Kasiba from the Elgin Public Museum spoke to the fifth grade class Tuesday, September 29, about Indians. She brought a buffalo robe, arrowheads, spearheads, a bowl made from wool with flower designs, a gourd bowl, parfleches (suit¬ cases), other Indian cloth¬ ing, pictures, and many other things.
She talked about how Indians in our area lived, hunted, and grew crops. She showed us pictures of houses like the sod house, long
house, round house, and the ever popular teepee. Indians took the children everywhere. They had a special board to carry babies on their back. If they were working, the babies would be hung in a tree until they were ready to leave.
After the speech, we divided into groups to try on the buffalo robe and the clothing, to grind corn, to play the turtle shell game, and to look at the other things she brought. The fifth grade loved it.
