"THE ODD COUPLE" WELL BE PERFORMED AT HUNTLEY HIGH SCHOOL
VERDICT ON TOWNSHIP BALLOT TO BE HEARD FRIDAY
Neil Simon's delightful comedy pair, Felix Unger and Oscar I Maddison, seen regularly on television, will be stopping for a two evening visit this coming week-end in Huntley. "The Odd Couple'" iresented by the students of Huiltley High School will feature Tim Swanson as Felix and Manfred Dittrich as Oscar. Tim. as many of you recall, shared star billing in last year's production "Come Blow Your Horn." Manfred, known more recently for his basketball and football exploits, has only recently turned to acting.

Last Wednesday, March 23rd at 10 am a hearing was held in Judge Roland Herrmann's court to decide wether Charles Ruth's name would remain on the Grafton Township ballot. The case was Eckman vs Grafton Township. Representing the Township were Mr. Herb Franks and Mr. Tom Schmitt. Representing Mr. Eckman was Mr. Bernard Narusis.
The trial began with a motion by Township Attorney Franks & Schmitt to dismiss the case. The motion contended that Mr. Ed Eckman was not a legal voter of Grafton Township because he did not live in the towhship. The attorney for respondent, Franks and Schmitt asked that Alan Hafferkamp be excluded from courtroom.
Mr. Ed Eckman then took the stand and stated that his address 11112   S.   Church   Street.

Huntley. When asked Mr. Eckm¬ an responded that he did not live any other place. Mr. Franks nex/ question was "Do you you have a young lady in Mt. Prospect?" Mr. Eckman said that he stayed with her on weekends. It was brought out that Mt. Prospect was in Cook Counfy. Mr. Franks next asked if Mr. Eckman maintained bedroo¬ ms anywhere else? Mr. Eckman stated that he keep some clothes at the Hafferkamp farm, some at his parents home and some at his girl friends house. Mr. Eckman stated that he does have a room at the Hafferkamp farm in which he stays sometimes 2 or 3 days a week. Attorney   Franks   next   asked
where he worked and who he worked for. He ^ed tliit he had been employed'by Ae Road Commissioner Vernon OTunschon for two years. He was asked about the emergency telephone numbe¬ rs listed next to the telephone in the Township Garage. He stated that the number was 669-5754. Mr. Franks next initiated the number 338-2174 which is the Hafferkamp number. Mr. Eckm¬ an said that he received some phone calls from Mr. Brunschon there on an irregular basis. He again stated that he maintained a residence in his parents home but did keep some clothes at the Hafferkamp farm and some at his girl friends in Mt. Prospect.
At this time Attorney Narusis placed into evidence Mr. Eckm¬ an's Drivers License and  voter registration card. It was brought out that/Mr. Eckman h?d, regist¬ ered to vote with Registrar Virgin¬ ia Brunschon,   the wife of his . employer. Mr. Eckman was asked ' who advised him to register. He • stated that Mr. Jack Brunschon had. He was asked it he received mail at the Hafferkamp address
and said that he had received mail only once. He was asked if registering to vote Was a conditi¬ on for his employment with the township. Mr. Eckman said that he hired Mr. Narusis on February 28th. However he did not pay him at that time.
Next Mr. Eckman sUted that he also stays sometimes in Mare¬ ngo one or two nights a week.
Mr. Narusis next cross examin¬ ed Mr. Eckman. He first asked if the 11112 Church Street address was known as any other to Which Mat. Eckman responded 23 S. Crttfrch. Mr. Narusis presented an Illinois Drivers license, a voters registration card, and a car registration all of which bore the Huntley Church St. address. The license plates for the car were purchased on February 28th the same day Mr. Eckman hired his attorney. He said that he lived at this address for 16 years and had moved to Church St. at the age of 5.
Under redirect Mr. Franks brought oot the fact that Mr. Eckman does not have a Huntley vehicle sticker (the deadline to purchase a vehicle sticker in the Village of Huntley was March Ist-Huntley Police and Village Officals have been making a crackdown on unregistered cars. home. Mr. Hafferkamp said that usually instead of money, Mr. Eckman works at the farm for his board, he has given money for use of the room however when he does not help out as much at the farm. The amount of money varied depending on the amount of work. Mr. Hafferkamp stated that he knows of Mr. Eckman Slaying in Marengo from time to time.
At this time in the hearing Mr. Hafferkamp said that Mr. Eckm¬ an's pet which he could not keep at the Church Street address was a Boa Constrictor in his room. (At this point the courtroom went up tor grabs. Attorney Narusis was heard to exclaim in a very loud voice "A Boa Constrictor". Foll¬ owed by laughter from everyone in the courtroom.) Later in the hearing it was brought out that the boa constrictor is between AVi loSfeet.
Mr. Hafferkamp stated that Mr. Eckman has kept his clothes (here a year. He also stated that he Road Commissioner, Vernon Brunschon had call Mr. Eckman at the farm for emergency calls. Mr. Hafferkamp stated that Mr. Hckman probably has several different phone numbers listed for emergency calls. It was brou¬ ght out that he keeps equipment out there at times.
Mr. Franks next called Mr. Vernon Brunschon, Road Commi¬ ssioner of Grafton Township and Mr. Eckmans employer to the stand. Mr. Brunshon said that he lived on Grove street in Huntley and when questioned on emerge¬ ncy numbers next to the phone. Mr. Brunshon stated that there were two numbers next Mr. Eckman's name the one of the Church St. address and the Don- Township number. He said that if Mr. Eckman's mother said he was not home he called him at the farm. He stated that he did not know how long both numbers were up at the Township Garage as his wife, Virginia Brunschon, Township Assessor had put up new ones because of painting. He added that possibly one time out of ten he had called Mr. Eckman at the Door Township number.
