Ms. Collins' academic award places her in the top 1 % of seniors nationwide. In addition to maintaining an outstanding academic record Ms. Collins, daughter of Mr. St Mrs. Jerry Collins, is active in school and community affairs. She is co-edhor of the Huntley Redskin Newspaper, member and treasurer of the National Honor Society, secretary of the Senior Oass, oo-captain of the Varsity Cheerleading squad and a member of the band, diorus, FHA, Huntley Singers, and Student Council. She is a medalist in the IHSA State Solo and Ensemble Conteat, placed second b the county Junior Engineering and Technical Society oompetkioa in English and danced in the school's production of "Oklahoma!'' Ms. Collins' plans fbr the future include study at Drake University in Iowa. It's National FFA Week The Huntley FFA Chapter, along, with over 8,300 other chapters nationwide is celebrat¬ ing National FFA Week February 18-2Sth. During this wee, members of the Huntley Chapter are planning to condud activities in recognition and support of this year's theme - "Keeping America On The Grow.'' FFA Week has traditbnally included George Washington's birthday in respect fbr his leadership and innovative prac¬ tices in agriculture. In fact, the National FFA Center is located on 37 acres of the old Washington Estate. The Huntley Chapter has many activities planned for this week. Induded among them are: flag raising and dress code day; farmer day; tractor day; cap day; and prodoctton day (a day when the production side of agriculture will be represented). Jeff Peterson Chapter Reporter '83 Police Report Chief Rossi told us that 1983 was an extremely busy year for his department. The Huntley police which consists of a Chief, one Sergeant, and four full time patrolman and supplemented with three part time personnel, responded this year to over 1030 calls for the police. These calls ranged from stray dogs, to lock-outs from cars and homes, to thefts in progress and to investigating numerous acci¬ dents, some with serious injur¬ ies. Chief Rossi stated that there is a need for the six fiill time member department in Huntley. Not only did police respond to over 1030 calls for assistance but 196 people were arrested for committbg offenses rangteg Continued on next page Booster Valentine's Dance Successful In spite of the terrible fog, there was quite a crowd at the Valentine Dance last Saturday night. The music was great, the decorations (done by the Boost¬ er's) were beautiful, the pop¬ corn delidous and the crowd was out to have a good time, and they did. Prizes were awarded around 12:30; 1st. - Ronald McMullins from Carpentersville. 2nd. - Rick Dietrick and Dave Vitta. 3rd. prizes - Dick Boettcher, Judy Schmitt, Donald Mueller, Jim Walker, Jim O'Connor, Walter Pupich, Dorothy Azzaro, ludie Keesling, Bob Weislow and Steve Reynolds. Some of the prize winners donated their prizes back to the Huntley Athletic Boosters. It's that time of the year \^ hen the Chancel Choir of the First Contregational Church of Huntley, presents h's annual HOBO SHOW. This year promises to be the best show ever. The title is "MEMORIES' and includes songs and skits from the past 19 years of shows. "Me And My Shadow" was expertly done in 1964, but wait until you see Prudy Cole and Raelene Thackwray perform it i.i 19841 The Hill Family did a fantastic number with "The Family Toothbrush", but the Frihart's and Thackwray's give it a whole new twist I There will be a barber shop quartet, a terrific duet by Bill Leggee and Luann Lamz and a special number by the choir's youth featuring our own Dale Ander¬ son. Before each show the HOBOS serve everyone a delicious dinner of beef stew, potatoes, salad, roll, cup cakes and ice cream sundaes. Then you will be entertained by the hour long show of songs, skits and very funny jokes. It all begins on March 2nd and 3rd. The first seating on Friday, March 2nd, will be at 7:00. The second and third seatings will be on Saturday, Maroh 3rd, at 5:30 and 8:00. Tickets are sold by advanced sales only on Saturday, February 11th, b the church sodal hall on the comer of Church and Main in Huntley. After that date, tickets may be available by calling Mary Lou Hardy, at 669-SS22, after 5:30 pm. Tick«ft prices are S6.00 for adults and $3.00 for children 12 and under. They are sold by reserved seatings, so come early to get the seat you want. You will be pleasantly surprised It Altar & Rosary Society younjg teens who Send Donations The Christian Service Com- mittt ' of the Altar & Rosary Society of St. Mary's has reported that they have sent donations to the two charities they dedded to aid this year. Funds earned at the recent Oktoberfest were used. A check for $300 was sent to help build water tanks in Kenya. A donation of $700 was sent to Mortin House in Rockford which was recently featured on the Phil Donahue Show. This is a social agency which works with have been and also to get out of Frosh-Soph Basketball Players involved in gangs help young girls prostitution. Thanks to all those who helped us eam these funds. Let's hope that in some small way, they do help to make life better for those in need. Notice The Huntley Park Distrid has a vacancy fbr one Park Commissioner to serve until April 1985. Interviews for any interested persons will be held at the February 22 and March 28 meetings.
