Deicke Village of Huntley Receives Award EDWIN F. DEICKE, former mayor ef bombard and afemer insunmce company owner who was often cited for his philantro- pic contribution sin Illinois and Southera Florida, is dead at age 88. Mr. Deicke died Friday in die Broward General Medical Cen¬ ter, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. A resident of Wheaton, Mr. Deicke spent much ofhis time in Plantation, Fla., where he buih one of the first homes in that community in 1950. Mr. Deicke founded the Suburban Casuahy Cb., fai 1925, operating out of his father's general store in York Center. He later became president of the Pioneer Fire Insurance Co. He also owned dairy farms in Huntley, Dl. Mr. Deicke was superviaor of York Township from 1924 to 1933 and was mayor of Lombard from 1949 to 1953. The Edwin F. Deicke Founda¬ tion, a philantroipic organiza¬ tion, was created by Mr. Deicke in 1965. Through the founda¬ tion, he donated thouaanda of -^doHars to cultund aad edaca- tional tastitutions fai IBhioia and Florida. M. Deicke received numer¬ ous awards for his dvic activities, particulariy thoae with the Boy Soouts and the YMCA. He helped organize the first Du Page County Boy Scout troop in 1926. In 1962 he was given the SUver Beaver award for his work in scouting. He received an honorary doctor of humanities degree in 1975 from Elmhurst QiUege, whose nursing-education center is named for him. In gratitude for his $150,000 donation, the Plantation City HaU audhorium was named in his honor. Mr. Deicke is survived by his wife, Lois; a daughter, Lois Martfai; two grandchUdren; and two sisters. Standing Room Only At Landfill Meeting A certificate of Commenda¬ tion has been awarded to the VUlage of Huntiey Water Department by the Ulfaiois Department of Public Health. "The commendation is fai recognition of the Huntiey PubUc Water Supply Operator's consistent maintenance of re¬ quired levels of fluoride in the water throughout 19«3", said Fred H. UhUg. actfaig director of the state healdi department. He ezplafaied that fluoride levels of public water supplies are measured each month and, in many communities, the levels fluctuate from month to month so are not up to required levels every month. Shiriey Randolph, acting chief, of the state health department's Diviaion of Dental Heahh, aaid that eflbrts to comply with the flouride levels required in the state's fluorida¬ tion law are Important to the citizens of the oommunity because of the dental health benefits of fluoridated water. "We are very pleased to recognize and commend the Huntiey Public Water Supply Operators for their acoomplish¬ ment", she said. Out of more than 1,100 pubUc water suppliea fai Ulinola, jnat 54 earned certificates tat maJntain- falg consistent required levels of fluoride for an entire year", UhUgsaid. There was Standing Room Only at Huntiey H.S., Tuesday, November 20th, at a meeting on the potential landfiU 2 mUes north of Huntiey on Hwy. 47. Greg Lindsay, Ezecutive Director of McHenry County Defenders, talked about land¬ fUls Ul general, the siting process, and what the oounty ia dofaig about the waste situation. As part of his presentation he taUced about the Total Waste Management Study which wUl be presented to the Coanty Board in an open hearing at Central School, Monday, Nov¬ ember 26th at 7:30. This hearing may have important implica¬ tions fai the local landfUl question. Dr. Gary Grau, moderator of the meeting, led an open discussion on the propc«ed landfill. The meeting ended with action being taken on forming oommittees such as publication, legislative contact, meeting, steering, and tele¬ phone oommittees. The meeting waa caUed by Nancy and Gary Grau and Maurice and Betty Norman in response to the publiahed legal notice by McHenry County Landfill, Inc. h is hoped there wiU be a very continued on page 5
