Huntley Park District
The regular meeting of the Huntley Park District was called to order by President Tures at 8 P.M. on Wednesday, March 25, 1987. Present were Commissioners Tures, Mercer, Olson, Gurnett and Jurs. Also attending were Attorney CowUn, Betsey Warrington, LeRoy Wirsing, Jeffrey Palmquist, Dan Woodcock, Graham Knott, Scott O'Brien, and Joanne Springman.
A motion to approve the minutes of the February 25th meeting was made by Mr. Jurs, seconded by Mr. Gurnett. All Commissioners voted aye and the motion carried.
Mr. Jurs moved to accept the Treasurer's report, second by Mr. Olson. All ayes and the motion carried.
Jeffrey Palmquist from Harland Bartholomew & Associates presented prelimi¬ nary drawings and ideas for the landscape plan for Ol' Timer's Park. This will be a long-range planting plan to develop as funds become available. After much discussion, Mr. Palmquist left the meeting.
After checking the bills presented for payment, a motion to pay all bills was made by Mr. Gurnett, seconded by Mr. Jurs. All ayes and the motion carried.
The reservation requests were discussed. Mr. Olson moved to approve all reservations, seconded by Mrs. Mercer. All ayes and the motion carried.
LeRoy Wirsing's discussion with the board included: safety report, safety storage cabinet, summer help, lawn roller, repair tractor, remove apple tree, muskrat control and bike path.
Betsey Warrington's report included: Town Picnic, soccer, softball, nursery, and porti-potty for 01' Timer's Park.
The board wishes to thank George and Marion Fruin for the tree memorial for Timer Bakley.
Thank you's came to the board from Tom Jurs, LeRoy Wirsing and Boots Parisek.
The purchase of a dumpster was discussed. Mr. Jurs made a motion to purchase dumpster per proposal from Huntley

The regular meeting of the Huntley Lions Club was called to order on March 24, 1987 by the Vice President, Don Tessmer at 7:30 p.m. at the American Legion with those members in attendance as shown on the Attendance Record and Guest Register. Song was lead by Lion Barney and May Chesak, the Beer Barrel Polka and God Bless America was sung by all. Lion Dan Ziller lead us in the pledge and Lion Del Borhart lead us in prayer. Guest for the evening were Lion Red Benhart, Governor of District IJ and Zone Chairman Leo Smith.
After a delicious meat ball dinner served by the women of the Legion, the Secretary read the minutes which were approved with a motion by Lion Dan Ziller and 2nd by Lion Hoppy Kahl. Lions Ed Meagher, Don Tessmer, Gordon Schultz and Norm Brettschneider were asked to serve on a committee to see what is the best way to spend our money we made on our fteak fry. Hopefully it will be used for a project in the town itself. Lion Dan Ziller gave a report on the basket- ball tournament which netted us with over $500.00. Lion Joe Schaller is looking for Lions to go to the Hadley School for the Blind. This project is to celebrate our 40th anniversary on April 26th. Gary Schultze asked all members to bring in their Sight and Sound Sweepstakes affle Tickets by next meeting. Zone Chairman Leo Smith then gave a short talk about a Lions orientation meeting at Ashleys on the 29th of March. Gov. Red Benhart then took the floor and presented Darryl Gurnett with an award for having a 43% increase in sales on Candy Day. Next Gov. Benhart inducted into the Club, Tim Franks who was sponsored by Gary Schultze. Welcome aboard Tim.
Being no other business, amotion was made by Dan Ziller and 2nd by Joe Schaller to adjourn. Dick Kohiey, Secretary
Play at School is a Success
Senior Citizen News-
Last week the Huntley High School Drama Department under the direction of Mr. James Skomer presented the play, "Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat " The play was a modern version of the well-known Old Testament story of Joseph and his brothers. The play was a near sell-out the first two evenings and a complete, standing room only, sell-out on the final evening, Friday.
Congratulations are in order for all the actors and actresses for a terrific performance. Can't wait for the next production.
Senior Citizen Club of Huntley met March 26th at the Congregational Church Social Hall for their regular monthly meeting. After pot luck President Ahrens called the meeting to order and all pledged allegiance to the flag. Roll call was taken, minutes were read and approved. Treasurer Knaak gave her report, which was accepted. The birthday song was sung for March cele¬ brants. A new member Edna Schultz was welcomed into the club. Committee members for the April meeting are Nancy Grimes, Viola Knaak and Louise Kruetzer.
Two members of the Huntley Village Board, Larry Basel and Fred Ahrens gave short talks on their qualifications for office in the upcoming election. They answered questions pertaining mostly to the need for expansion and correcting odors from the sewage plant.
Louise Kruetzer, recreation member, said that money has been allocated to Senior Citizens trips from the Park Board, Anyone with sugges* tions for trips to be taken should contact her or Alice Rendl.
There being no further business, May Chesak moved for adjournment, Viola Knaak seconded and the meeting adjourned. Bingo was then played. Vera Swanson, Secretary
