Girl Scout Briefs
The Girl Scouts have been busy the last few weeks with Jr. Troop 218 going to the Fire Department and Brownie Troop 224 going to the Crystal Lake radio station. Then the Junior, Brownie and Daisy Troops got together and made gifts for the Senior Citizen's Christmas Lunch.
We all got ready for Christmas by making gifts for our parents, and Brownie Troop 220 is going to put on a play for their families also.
Two Jr. Troop 218 girls earned badges; Kelly Stensing earned "Books ic Exploring Food" and Jenny Swanson earned "Group Sports".
Thanks to the Huntley Fire Department and to the Crystal Lake Radio Station for being so nice to us. Jr. Troop 218

"Keep The Wreath Red" A Success
The "Keep The Wreath Red" program was a success for 1987 as there were no fires in the district due to holiday decorations and lights. This is the fifth year in a row that the pro¬ gram has been-a success and the Huntley Fire Protection District would like to commend all the residents on being fire safety minded.
Now that the holiday season is over we urge all residents to continue to be fire safety conscious, especially with the extreme cold weather lately. Be extremely careful with wood burning stoves, kerosene heaters and space heaters. Watch for excessive build-up of soot in chimneys that may cause a fire. Keep all combustable material away from all heating units and also prevent young children from playing around heating units. If you purchase a portable heating unit make sure it is UL tested and read all instructions before operating.
During 1987 the Huntley Fire Department responded to 169 fire calls and 343 ambulance calls for a total of 512 calls. This is 107 more calls than we responded to in 1986. The District had an 8% increase in fire calls and a 40% increase in ambu¬ lance calls during 1987 compared to 1986. With the increase of residential and industrial building in the fire district, the number of calls we respond to is also expected to increase during 1988. The Huntley Fire Protection District will continue to provide the best fire and ambulance service available to the residents of the fire district.
Sincerely,
/s/ Dave Veath
