Huntley Library is open to public
'Family Fun Day' being planned to celebrate new, larger facility

The yearlong construction of the Himtley Area Public Library is now complete, and the entire community is in¬ vited to a celebration of the opening of the new, larger building.
The library officially opened its doors to the public Tues¬ day. On Sunday, Aug. 8, "Family Fun Day" will be held as a way of introducing the facility to the public.
"We thought it was appro¬ priate because such a large niunber of our patrons are fiamilies," said ^^ui-ginia Mar¬ avilla, durector of the Himtley Area Public Library.

Residents encouraged to spend evening with neighbors

Nobotfy likes a neighbor who is a bu^bodly, but poUce and community activists say neighlrars who know and care for each other help thwart oiminal and gang activity in a town.
The Huntley neighborhood group Communities Against Gangs is hoping residents take the time on Tuesday night to get acquainted.

The evening of block parties is being scheduled in con- jimction with National Night Out, which is designed to strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-commimily partnerships across the countiy.

"The idea is to promote awareness in our neigh- boiiioods and on our blocks," Warrington said.
She said other areas in the village could hold more in- fonnal activities if desued and
that Communities Against Gangs could help the blocks set up a neighborhood party.
Huntley police are en- coura^g residents to lock theu* doors, tum on outside lights and spend Tuesday evening outside with neigh¬ bors.
Law-enforcement officials say they count on residents to report suspicious activity in theu- neighborhood.
"You need to know what's going on in your neighborhood to ^ow when something is not right," said Sgt Tony Candiff of the McHenry County Sheriffs Department, who works with community organizations such as Com¬ munities Against Gangs to raise awareness atiout crime and gang prevention in the
community.
Warrington said neighbors should not hesitate to call police about suspicious ac¬ tivity.
For example, Huntiey police recently received a call from a resident who noticed people swimming in the pool of neighbors who were on vaca¬ tion at the time.
Police eventually discovered that the vacationing neigh¬ bors' relatives were swimming in the pool When the vaca¬ tioners retumed, though, they thanked their fellow neighbor for showing concem, War¬ rington said.
