ILL PAGES SERVING THE PEOPLE OF HUNTLEY SINCE 1960 ' ISePERCOPY LeROY MARKS RESIGNS On Tuesday, January 10, 1978 LeRoy Marks. Superintendent of Huntley Schools, tendered his resignation to the Board of Education at their regular meeting. The resignation becomes effective June 30 of this year. This will appear in the regular school board minutes which are not available at this time. Mr, Marks became Superintendent of Schools in 1968 following the resignation of Mr. Tom Kelly. He came to Huntley from Schaumburg. During his tenure in Huntley, the new shops were built as well as the new gymnasium. Many changes in the curriculum at the schools took place under his leadership Mr. Marks, at present, plans to leave the educational field and go into provate business. His plans also include residing in Huntley. Band members for the third annual VicHenty County Honors Concert Band have been selected The Toncert Band and Honors Jazz Band wiw .^„h?a^se under the direction of Larry Livingston, conductor from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston during the week of January 22. On January 27 the bands will give concerts at three high schools in the county, Hany D. Jacobs High School in Algonqum, Huntley High School atid Marengo High School. On Sunday. January 29, the Honor Bands will present a public concert at 3 PM in fhe auditorium at Cary-Grove High School. Tickets for the public concert - $2 for adults and $1 for students - are available from members ofthe bands. THE HOBOES ARE COMING Check the date! Mark your calendar! The Hoboes of the First Congregational Church will be 'stewing things up again' on March 4th. Watch the Farmside for up-to-the-minute details I SCHOOL BOARD MEETING CANCELLED The monthly School Board meeting scheduled for January 26, 1978 has been cancelled. VALENTINE DANCE FEB. 11 The Huntley Athletic Boosters are sponsoring a Valentine dance at the Legion on Feb. 11. Social hour will be from 6:30 - 7:30 with a dinner and dance following. Contact Carolyn Schachtner or any Booster for ticket information. In their last meeting the Boosters voted to include the Jr. High Athletic program into the club. We will need the help and attendance at meetings of the Jr. High parents. So far this year the Boosters have helped to purchase training equipment for the foot¬ ball and basketball teams. We have also taken the teams out for dinner. We have done this throughout 50-50 raffles and bake sales. We hope to be able to extend this help to the Jr. High boys and girls but we will need the support of the Jr. High parents to aid in raising the fiinds needed. Parents of girls, as well as boys, are welcome. Huntley Community Volleyball Toumament Plans set Feb. 4th Plans are nearly completed for the First Annual Huntley Comm¬ unity Volleyball Toumament to be held Saturday. February 4th. This tournament is a part of the Back Bob's Back fund drive. The event wUl be held at the Huntley High School Gym, start¬ ing at 7:30 p.m. Opening ceremonies include plans for a parade of competing teams and their banners, led by the "Official Olympic Torch Carrier." Mr. Bud Weber will be the emcee for the evening. The rounds will be limited to ten minute games, with single eliminations. There are sixteen teams entered in the competition. Each of the four classes in high school will be represented in the toumament wtth a team. Some other teams are the Grafton Homemakers, Dean Milk Com¬ pany, Huntley Jaycees, The Snowmobile Club and the Hunt¬ ley Credit Union. There wlU be entertainment between competit¬ ions and several door prizes wiD be awarded on admission ticket numbers during the evening. Chances are also available on a Zenith portable Color Television set, with the drawing to be held at the February 4th Volleyball Tournament. Tickets Can be obtained from team members or a at V & V Electronics, Main Street. Huntley. The prize is on display in the V & V Electronics window. Make plans now to attend the Huntley Community Volleyball Tournament and support the team of your choice I! NO SCHOOL Huntley schools will be dismis¬ sed on January 25 because of a Teacher Institute Day. Teachers of Kindergarten thr¬ ough fifth grade will attend a Houghton Mifflin inservice meet¬ ing. Joining the Elementary teachers will be all teachers of Grade 6-12 who teach reading or language arts. The meeting will provide school personnel an exposure to the authors of Houghton Mifflin language art material which are used in the District. Teachers of high school vocat¬ ional subjects will spend part of the time preparing the annual vocation plan. Part of the day will be used to visit another school. Other Junior High and high school staff members will visit schools in the surrounding area.
